REVIEW – The winter months can be harsh on our bodies in multiple different ways. Coughs, colds and dry skin all benefit from a bit of humidity in the air. A humidifier that attaches to the furnace is very costly so I was looking for a more affordable alternative. The Levoit Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier is a great answer for me as I already have the Levoit Classic 200 Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier that I love. The Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier provides great humidity without breaking the bank.

Design and features
One of the things that is really nice about the Levoit Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier it can be broken down and stored in an included bag! This makes setup super easy as everything is contained within the storage bag and there is no need to go hunting around for all the pieces and parts.
Here, I used the bag to protect the humidifier while it was still set up while we were dusting the house.
Setup itself is super easy. First, you pull everything out of the water tank and place the lid for it on top.
The next step is installing the wick filters and sponge filters into their housings. These are easily replaceable and can be bought from the Levoit website. It is advised to replace them after three to six months depending on how much buildup appears on the blue wick filters. After using it for a couple of months there is definitely some build up on the wicks so I will be replacing them before next winter.
The wick frame snaps into the top of the water tank lid. It is held in with two tabs on the tank lid. Squeezing the two light gray arrows in the middle of the lid will release both the tank lid and the wick frame.
Refilling the humidifier is easy as it is on wheels and can be rolled to a sink anywhere in your house. You can fill it two ways, with the wick frame on or with it off.
The Levoit Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier holds up to six gallons of water! No one wants to try to pick up that much water and set it on the ground, so they included a faucet extender! Simply run the hose into the hole in the tank lid or take the tank lid completely off and fill it up. Once it’s full, it can be easily pushed back to its location on its wheels.
The top is where the magic happens. It is gravity mounted on top of the wick frame with the power cord plugging in the back.
Inside, you can see the fans that force the moist air up and out of the wicks.
On the top of the Levoit Superior 6000S is the control panel. While it might seem like there are a lot of options, it is really simple to use. Starting at the top going clockwise is manual fan speed, set humidity level, turn the display off, timer, power, dry mode, sleep mode and auto mode. In the center of the display is the humidity percentage, WiFi indicator, filter light, empty tank light, display lock light and the timer hour indicator. While the settings seem pretty simple, they do need a tiny bit of explanation before they make sense. I have no issues operating the humidifier now but when I first tried to get it to do what I wanted it to do, I found I was using the wrong mode.
Auto mode and the set humidity modes were the ones I got confused. Auto mode will make sure that the humidity stays at the optimum percentage based on the temperature of the room while the set humidity mode makes sure that the humidity stays at the percentage you set. The fan speed is only adjustable when using manual mode or timer mode. It does not work in auto mode or with a set humidity level. My husband likes the house to be a little more humid than normal so we primarily use the set humidity mode rather than auto mode.
The dry mode is important to keep the wicks mold free and increase their lifespan. Every time the tank runs dry, a little over a week for me, I run the dry mode before I refill the tank. The dry mode has two levels, high and low. High takes about 30 minutes to dry out the wicks while low takes two hours. I prefer low mode because the fan is quite loud on high and since the humidifier is in the middle of my house it can be annoying. If you use the app, it will send you a weekly notification that the humidifier needs cleaning and that can also be your cue to run the dry mode.
The app is very simple to use and has some tracking data that isn’t available if you don’t use the app. However, unless you need the history of your humidity level, there really isn’t an absolute need to use it. It is nice to get notifications when the tank is empty and the humidifier needs cleaning but that’s about all I use the app for.
Here is the breakdown of the humidity in my house on a single day and for a week. This would be nice if you had a severe medical condition that was triggered by low humidity and you could track your flair ups with this app. Other than that for me I didn’t find this part useful at all and only looked at it for this review.
What I like about the Levoit Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier

What needs to be improved?
- Nothing
Final thoughts
Overall, I absolutely love the Levoit Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier. The fact that the humidifier is evaporative instead of mist means there is no moisture build up near it making it more efficient and less damaging to the house. The large water tank means I don’t have to remember to refill it every day which is a huge thing for me. On a normal day, it is silent during operation so it doesn’t affect the ambiance. Honestly, I can’t say enough good things about it. The only downside to the humidifier is that you have to replace the wicks every three to six months but that’s true of most evaporative humidifiers. If you are in the market for a super convenient, efficient humidifier look no further than the Levoit Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier.

As with many evaporative humidifiers there is a very fine “white dust” generated (a pet peeve of my wife) from the minerals in the water. Does the filter system in this Levoit Superior 6000S truly filter this “white dust”
Ultrasonic humidifiers are notorious for producing white dust resulting from the minerals in tap water being fractured into powder and released with the mist. Evaporative humidifiers collect those same minerals in the evaporation wicks/filters across which the air is drawn but *don’t* release them into the air. The upside is that you don’t have white dust but the downside is that hard water will saturate the wicks with “crust” over time.
I ran it all winter last year and never noticed anything like that. I did have to replace the four wicks for use this year as they were coated in the white gunk you were talking about.
Thanks
