Godox WEC Kit 1 1

REVIEW – For the past few years, I have been working on various projects on several social media platforms. This year, I plan to ramp up producing content for those platforms and to be more creative about it. My wife has been working on her content that focuses on lifestyle choices and she creates a lot of content showing her gardening that includes planting all of our greens and green leaf produce for the year. She has been expressing her need to be able to set up her camera on a stationary tripod to shoot video and to be able to move around without impacting the level and quality of the audio as she talks to her audience. What she needs is a good Transmitter/Receiver mic system for her camera. So, let’s give this Godox WEC kit 1 wireless microphone a try.

What is it?

The Godox WEC kit 1 is a wireless microphone that can be used to record yourself as a single person or interviews with other participants. The kit includes a lapel clip-on transmitter with a built-in microphone and a dual-channel receiver with a 3.5mm TRS connector. You can also mount the receiver to the cold shoe mount of your camera with the integrated belt clip and use the included 3.5mm TRS and 3.5mm TRS to TRRS audio cables to connect the receiver to your camera or mobile device of choice. The Receiver and Transmitter can communicate with each other from up to 656 feet away via 2.4 GHz frequency. There are LED indicators on both devices that allow you to monitor power and mode status and there are onboard controls to toggle between mono and stereo modes. The internal rechargeable batteries power the components for up to 8 hours at a time and can be recharged using the USB-C charging ports in just 2 hours.

Performance

The Godox WEC kit 1 wireless microphone is easy to set up and use and performs well. For my testing, I connected the Receiver to my Mackie DLZ Creator board. I tested the audio by itself and also did a comparison test with a much more expensive Sennheiser shotgun mic that I use when recording my 247 Real Talk Podcast episodes. While I did have to increase the gain quite a bit to get closer to the audio level of the Sennheiser, the Godox WEC kit 1 performed well. The connection was consistent, and the quality of the audio was acceptable. The Denoise function did not seem to make a huge difference,

Here is a short video that includes some of my comparison testing:

What I like

  • Both the Transmitter and Receiver are lightweight and compact
  • The battery life
  • The easy setup process
  • The included storage case and cables
  • The quality of the recording especially when considering the price

What I’d change

  • Not a change, but I wish I had the charging case with the kit I received

Final thoughts

The Godox WEC kit 1 wireless microphone is a great addition to my gear and adds versatility to my push towards more and better content creation, especially in environments outside of my home studio where mobility is key. Nice bang for the buck!! Well done.
