REVIEW – We’ve published at least a dozen Vosteed knife reviews over the past couple of years but I’ve yet to review one. Usually, it’s Kenneth, Issac, and James who fight over the offers when they come in. But this time, I get in on the action with the new Vosteed Chipmunk pocket knife. Let’s check it out.

What is it?

The Vosteed Chipmunk is a smaller flipper pocket knife that is perfect for anyone who wants a smaller knife or has smaller hands.

What’s in the box?

  • Vosteed Chipmunk pocket knife
  • Polishing cloth
  • Zippered carrying case

Is it just me, or are zippered pouches for pocket knives useful? I’d rather receive a sticker or a price discount than the pouch which will end up in a drawer. And that was really my only complaint with this knife.

Note: after I posted this review, I was gathering the box and papers that came in it to recycle and out fell an adorable sticker which is going on my new MacBook!

Design and features

vosteed chipmunk 3

The Vosteed Chipmunk pocket knife is available in 3 colors. There’s Jade (top), Green (bottom), and Black (not shown). I really like the G10 scales and especially like the Jade version which isn’t quite as blue as it looks in my images. In real life, it looks more like a material that should glow in the dark (too bad it doesn’t).

The Chipmunk has a thick pocket clip on one side that puts the knife in your pocket point up. It is possible to remove the clip and relocate it to the opposite side.

The image above shows the beveled finger notch which makes it easier to access the Chipmunk’s liner lock. Note that the little gingerbread man graphics on the pivot is not on production units. This particular knife was a small holiday gift from Vosteed.

This top-down view gives you an idea of the thickness of the G10 handles. You can also see the jimping on the liner lock and the blade which gives it a front flipper mechanism <- which I can’t do. It must be an index finger strength issue.

Not to worry though because the Vosteed Chipmunk pocket knife has two other ways to deploy the blade. As you can see in the image above, the knife also has dual thumb studs. While I can’t open the blade real fast using the thumb studs, I can do it.  And, I can close the knife with one hand due to the ease of accessing the liner lock.

My favorite is the back flipper which opens quickly and smoothly.

Look at that satin-finished drop point 14C28N steel blade!

The blade has a great looking bevel and most importantly, it’s sharp! Really sharp!

vosteed chipmunk 9

When you open the blade, just make sure that you fully deploy it so that the liner lock fully locks in place.

Here’s a look at the statin black finished version of the Chipmunk. Nice right? And yes, it’s just as sharp. How sharp? Check out my quick video below to see.

What I like

  • Perfect size for pocket carry and people with smaller hands
  • Smooth flipper action with 3 ways to deploy the blade
  • G10 Jade scales are unique

What I’d change

  • Nothing

Final thoughts

vosteed chipmunk 6

For my first Vosteed knife review, I can say that I now know why Kenneth, Issac, and James like to fight over who gets to review the new Vosteed knives. They really are that nice. Don’t worry though guys, I am only interested in the smaller knives and you can continue to review the big ones! 😉 The Vosteed Chipmunk is my new EDPO (everyday package opener) knife.
