REVIEW – Five years after reviewing my first string of LED lights from Twinkly, I got to play with a new strand called Dots. While most “Christmas lights” feature bulbs that dangle off the side, the Twinkly Dots feature tiny, circular pinpoint LEDs inline with the cord, opening up a new ideas for decorating with LEDs.
What is it?
The Twinkly Dots LED light string is a USB-powered string of RGB lights, available in lengths of 10 or 33 feet. A 66 foot set is available which is actually two 33 foot strands. An optional smartphone app opens up more preset or programmable patterns.

Design and features
The main controller has just one button and a single, multi-colored LED.
On one end is a USB-A connector for power.
Each LED is an RGB, multicolored light encased in a tiny dot.
This kit came with a handful of adhesive stickers. There are 60 lights, so not quite enough for each.
Each light is evenly spaced approximately two inches apart.
Setup
There is an optional app (iOS, Android) that connects via bluetooth or wifi. There are many interesting preset effects to choose from.
Performance
If fiddling with apps isn’t your thing, the controller has several preset patterns built right in that you can cycle through with a push of the button.
I ended up stringing the Twinkly Dots across a room that already had a cable strung across for hanging lights.
What I like
- Very customizable.
- Smartphone app has many fun patterns.
- Powers up in the last state.
- Can sync to music (music adapter sold separately).
What I’d change
- A little expensive for 10 feet of lights.
- Not for outdoor use. Weather resistance would be nice.
Final thoughts
I love the clean appearance of the string, since each light is inline with the cable. Absolutely perfect for indoor lighting decor.
