REVIEW – Today, I have a quick review of the Thrunite Mini Ballpoint pen for those of you who are interested in really small EDC pens. Let’s take a look.

What is it?

The Thrunite Mini is a bolt-action ballpoint pen that is made of an Aluminum alloy.

What’s in the box?

  • Thrunite Mini Ballpoint pen
  • Ball chain
  • Extra ink cartridge refill

Design and features

The Thrunite Mini Ballpoint pen is available in grey or green, although I do not see the green version on their site or Amazon.

The pen is only 3.5 in/90mm in length and features a ridged and tapered barrel that makes the pen comfortable to write with even though it’s so small.

This is a bolt-action pen which means it has a spring-loaded lever at the top of the barrel that allows you to extend and retract the writing tip easily.

The bolt action is fun to play with and because a fidget toy. But there is a problem that I noticed with I removed the first pen from the package and saw that the little bolt cap was not screwed into the lever. Screwing it back on isn’t a huge problem, but when I opened the second pen’s package, I found that the cap on that pen was loose. I think that a drop of Loctite or some other brand of superglue is a must do task if you buy this pen. Otherwise, you might discover that the cap goes missing.

You’ll also notice that the end of the pen has a large loop that you can use to attach the pen to a keychain you can attach the included ball chain.

Would you wear a small EDC pen around your neck? You can with the Thrunite Mini Ballpoint pen.

In addition to the included ball chain, an extra black ink refill cartridge.

Writing with this pen is the same as writing with other ballpoint pens. The refill won’t win any awards from me because I prefer fine-tipped gel pens. But for handy pen that you can keep in your bag, it works just fine.

What I like

  • Easy to use bolt-action
  • Extra refill included
  • Ball chain included

What I’d change

  • Bolt cap unscrews too easily

Final thoughts

There isn’t a lot more to say about the Thrunite Mini Ballpoint Pen. It’s a well made little EDC pen. The bolt-action mechanism is easy to use and even though this pen is small, its shape makes it comfortable to grip and use. My only concern is the bolt cap which needs to be glued in place so you won’t lose it by accident. The price of this pen on Amazon right now is less than $10, so it could make a nice little stocking stuff that will arrive before Christmas!

Price: $19.99

  1. Gadgeteer Comment Policy - Please read before commenting
  2. Amazon says “not available” and Thrunite asks $ 19.99, so is not the bargain it seems from the review.

    Joseph.

      1. Just rechecked the Amazon link and it answers: “Currently unavailable.
We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock.” Go figure!
