REVIEW – I have been working on finishing part of my basement to turn it into a comfy social area. However, no amount of paint and carpeting is going to change the fact it’s a basement room with concrete walls. While the colder atmosphere is great in the summer, during the winter it gets a bit chilly. A cute little fireplace heater is just the ticket to warm up the area!
What is it?
The Joy Pebble Electric Fireplace Heater is exactly what the name states, it is a cute electrical fireplace that is equipped with a small heater at the base.
Design and features
The Joy Pebble Electric Fireplace Heater is a cute little guy at 23″ high, 11″ deep and 20″ wide. The front of the heater is held closed with two magnets. Upon opening you gain access to the fake logs and projection screen for dusting and the control panel.
On the left side is the heat dial, the middle a trio of switches and on the right side is the flame dial. The switches control from left to right, on/off, 1000 and 1500 watt power. This is the part that was a little unclear to me at first but once I figured it out it was quite simple. The on/off switch controls the whole unit but turning the fireplace on doesn’t guarantee heat. In order to get heat, the 1000 watt switch needs to be turned on. If more heat is needed the 1500 watt switch is turned on as well. Both the 1000 and 1500 switches need to be on at the same time to get 1500 watt heat. The heat dial controls the thermostat which sets the room temperature while the flame dial increases and decreases the brightness and intensity of the projected flames.
Underneath the fireplace is the heater. I have multiple stupid cats and I was a little worried they could singe themselves on the heating element but it the fireplace is cool to the touch. The heating element stays pretty cool as well. The sides were quite cool to the touch as well as the front. The bottom of the element was a quite warm but was bearable to touch. The only part that was painful to touch was the actual grate on the front. The heater automatically turns on and off based on the thermostat. The heater is also equipped with a fan that runs to help push the heat out into the room. The fan is quiet and hardly noticeable even sitting right in front of the fireplace.
The flames are quite adjustable. They go from glowing embers to a roaring fire. The flame projection is decent, they aren’t super realistic but they aren’t super cheesy either. The are perfect for the ambiance of a warm fire. The photos do not do them justice.
While the Joy Pebble Electric Fireplace Heater is super cute, it’s really not designed for a larger cold room. My basement room is 14′ by 25′ and it raised the temperature five degrees in three hours. However, it is important to note that the ceiling isn’t finished and is open to the studs. I am pretty sure that if the room had a finished ceiling it would have increased the temperature another few degrees. The temperature was also taken perpendicular to the fireplace as to get the ambient room temperature. It was quite a bit warmer sitting directly in front of the fireplace.
What I like
- Stays cool to the touch
- Super quiet fan
- Pretty fire visuals
What I’d change
- Nothing
Final thoughts
With the seasons changing, there is nothing like having a fireplace to lift the mood and ambient temperature. The Joy Pebble Electric Fireplace Heater is the perfect addition to any chilly room. The whisper quiet fan allows it to blend seamlessly into the background while the cool to touch body makes it safe to be around. I absolutely love it and it will be a nice focal point in my basement gathering room.
