Huawei’s Ruiying Z10 adds a one-inch, 50-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor and a motorized 24–240mm-equivalent optical zoom to a compatible Mate phone. The detachable camera weighs 346g.

Price: RMB 5,999 (about US$895) for the silver Z10 H2 fitted to Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design. Where to buy: Check this exact Z10 version at Huawei VMall. The October 1 listing is temporarily out of stock and shows an estimated dispatch by October 25.

Mounted to the approximately 235g Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition, the combination weighs about 581g before a grip or strap. Huawei’s official specifications detail the module’s lens and controls.

Continuous 24–240mm optical zoom

The telescoping electric lens moves continuously from 24mm wide-angle to 240mm telephoto in 35mm-equivalent terms, a 10x optical zoom range.

The optical system uses 19 elements, with maximum aperture ranging from f/2.0 at the wide end to f/4.5 at telephoto.

The capture system includes a laser focusing sensor, an anti-flicker sensor, a gyroscope and Huawei’s third-generation Red Maple color camera.

A separately purchased adapter ring supports 77mm filters. The physical control ring can be assigned to zoom, aperture or manual focus.

Closest focusing distances are approximately 10cm at wide-angle and 100cm at telephoto, measured from the lens front. Huawei specifies optical stabilization at CIPA 7.0 for 85mm-equivalent and CIPA 6.5 for 240mm-equivalent, in pitch and yaw.

Collector’s Edition and RS compatibility

The Z10 product page supports Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design. The ordinary Pro Max does not support the module’s photography and video functions.

Huawei’s HyperClick connection integrates the module with the phone camera workflow and supports immediate sharing of captured pictures to the handset.

The Collector’s-compatible module measures 79.95 by 69.9 by 79.47mm; the RS-compatible version measures 79.95 by 69.9 by 78.41mm. They have separately identified phone fits.

Exposure controls and file formats

The Z10 offers continuous autofocus, single autofocus and manual focus; multi-pattern, center-weighted and spot metering; and exposure compensation from minus four to plus four stops. Manual ISO runs from 50 to 6,400, with electronic shutter speeds from 30 seconds to 1/4,000 second.

Still images reach 8192 by 6144 pixels in JPEG, HEIF or DNG. DNG provides raw files for editing; Huawei also offers built-in retro soft and landscape looks.

Video supports 4K at 30fps and 60fps. Separate 1080p slow-motion settings include 120fps, 240fps and 960fps.

Module price and separate accessories

Huawei’s October 1 China event page lists the module from RMB 5,999 (about US$895). The compatible phone and professional grip are separate purchases.

The standalone box contains the camera, lens hood, lens cap, cloth bag, quick guide and warranty card. The professional control grip is sold separately. So are the tripod collar and crossbody strap. Huawei describes the collar as an all-metal fitting that holds the lens and provides the tripod connection; the strap uses a sliding stainless-steel adjuster for different carrying lengths.
