REVIEW – We have a shed and garage that get extremely hot during Indiana summers, and even with the fan going, it’s really uncomfortable to hang out or get projects done in those spaces. Plus, co-reviewer Mason does off-the-grid camping and projects. We thought the Fogatti InstaCool Go portable air conditioner could be useful, especially since it’s advertised as working indoors or outdoors.

What is it?

The Fogatti InstaCool Go portable air conditioner is 24V with 2218 BTUS for air circulation, cooling and dehumidification, suitable for RVS, tent camping and more.

Design and features

Setup

There’s a little bit of setup involved to get your Fogatti InstaCool Go portable air conditioner ready for use, but it doesn’t take long.

You attach the power cord to the back of the air conditioner.

We used a standard household plug, but the website says it can also be used with solar panels, vehicle power, or a power bank.

Since we were testing the Fogatti InstaCool Go portable air conditioner indoors, we used the dual-tube system. That meant putting in the duct connector for the tube to funnel out the warm air (one is intake). The tubes can contract or expand (9.5 to 33+ inches) to give you lots of options on where to put them.

There is also a small drain pipe tube for condensation, but we noticed hardly any water in ours at all… then again, the weather was very dry when we tested this.

The cool air comes out of the vent in the front. You do have an option to put a duct adapter and smaller tube there, as well, which could be very handy if you’re directing your cool air into a tight spot.

We tested this feature but don’t tend to use it that way.

Performance

In all fairness, we expected to test the Fogatti InstaCool Go portable air conditioner in the dog days of summer but didn’t receive the review sample until mid-October when the weather significantly cooled. We did our best to test it, despite mid-60s weather (and colder) and low humidity. However, if we have a different experience using this in peak summer weather, we’ll share a review update.

The Fogatti InstaCool Go portable air conditioner certainly blows cold air, has strong consistent airflow, and is not terribly loud for an air conditioner, especially if you’re used to sleeping with a fan. In fact, you can also just use it as a fan, if the weather cools down but you still want some airflow; there are three airflow modes.

The manual says it cools areas 25 to 43 square feet, which is consistent with our testing.

The controls are simple, with just an up or down click (either from the remote or the buttons on the air conditioner) to set your ideal temperature and airflow mode.

At just 15 pounds, it’s light and easy to carry in one hand, especially if you don’t have the tubes attached. The portability would make it great for camping.

Fogatti PortableAC 8

Overall, it’s a great little air conditioner.

What I like

  • Easy to set up and use
  • Works well

What I’d change

  • Nothing

Final thoughts

The Fogatti InstaCool Go portable air conditioner is a good portable air conditioner that can also be used as fan during your outdoor (or indoor) adventures.
