REVIEW – When I ordered the Google Pixel Fold to see if it would get me to switch back to Android from my iPhone, I knew that I’d want to also get a case to protect it in case I decide to return it for a refund. I’ve been using Pitaka cases to protect my iPhones for the last few years so I was happy to accept the offer to review the Google Pixel Fold MagEZ Case 3. Let’s see if it lives up to what I’ve come to expect from Pitaka cases.

What is it?

The Pitaka MagEZ 3 is a case designed for the Google Pixel Fold smartphone.

Design and features

The Pitaka MagEZ 3 Google Pixel Fold case is available in 3 colors. Black/grey, Rhapsody, and Overture (shown above left to right).

The MagEZ 3 cases for the Google Pixel Fold are made of Aramid fibers which are thinner than human hair and stronger than steel. Since the Google Pixel Fold is a folding phone, the case has two pieces. There’s a frame for the front screen and a cover for the back of the phone.

You can see the cool design/texture of these cases in the image above. They have a unique look with the woven fibers. You’ll also notice that there’s a cut-out for the back camera module and that the back cover is MagSafe compatible. You’re probably thinking that MagSafe is for the iPhone and not the Google Pixel Fold, but the Pixel Fold can be charged wirelessly with any wireless charger including MagSafe chargers.

Each piece of the MagEZ 3 case is thin and lightweight. It’s not designed to protect your phone from a high fall, but from my own experience, it will protect it from short drops, bumps, knocks and everyday abuse.

The front and back covers easily snap in place. Each piece has a thin strip of adhesive if you want to stick it to your phone. I didn’t find it necessary to use those adhesive strips. I’ve been using this case for over a week and it’s stayed in place perfectly.

The frame around the camera module is slightly higher than the module itself so that it offers some protection when you place the phone flat on its back.

The same is true for the front of the phone where the case wraps around the edges of the screen for extra protection.

There are cutouts for the microphones, speakers, and a USB-C port on the bottom edge of the phone.

There’s also a large cutout for the power and volume switch on the side.

At the top edge, there are additional cutouts for a speaker and microphone.

The design of the case leaves the hinge area completely open so that there’s no issue when unfolding the phone.

Just like the Pitaka MagEZ 3 case edges wrap around the sides of the phone when it’s closed, it also wraps around the unfolded display.

I like the matte, slightly soft texture of the case because it makes the case less slippery and even helps you open it.

Remember what I said about this case having MagSafe compatibility? I decided to put that to the test with the MagSafe charger that was included with the Balolo Setup Cockpit modular monitor stand that I use.

The Google Pixel Fold in the Pitaka MagEZ 3 case connected to the MagSafe charger securely and charged without any issues. Since I already have several MagSafe chargers around my home, I like being able to effortlessly put the Pixel Fold on the charger without really paying attention to how it’s positioned because the magnets pull it into place.

What I like

  • Easy to install
  • Adds grip
  • Lightweight

What I’d change

  • More designs/colors would be nice

Final thoughts

After years of using and recommending Pitaka phone cases, this new MagEZ 3 case for the Google Pixel Fold is no different. The cases are well made, look great, don’t bulk up your phone, and provide grip and protection for everyday bumps and knocks.
