REVIEW – Did you purchase an iPhone 14 Pro Max? If you answered yes, you probably need a case to protect it. Of all the case makers I have had the pleasure to review cases from, Nomad is one of the best. They recently sent me one of their newest cases, the Sport Case. And not surprisingly, it is another solid all-around product from Nomad.

What is it?

The Nomad Sport Case is a minimalist everyday case for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The case features a high-gloss backing and grippy TPU protective bumper.

Design and features

The Nomad Sport Case comes in four California coastline-inspired colors, Black, Ash Green, Lunar Gray, and Marine Blue. I chose to go with the Lunar Gray. The color looks like the gray that some car manufacturers are using on newer model cars and SUVs. And I happen to find it striking, especially with the high-gloss finish. So let’s start there with the backplate. Aside from being great looking, the high-gloss finish provides a dual purpose. It makes the case easy to slide into a pocket but grips surprisingly well on your fingers. I was pleasantly surprised with how grippy it was.

One thing I love about Nomad’s case designs is their attention to small details. For example, the TPU protective bumper isn’t flat or rounded like in some iPhone cases. It actually has a concave design that not only adds to the overall look of the case but adds to its grip factor.

The same can be said about the button covers. Instead of using plastic or rubber Nomad chose high-end anodized aluminum. They fit perfectly over the iPhone’s buttons, are very responsive, and look great. And it adds to the overall minimalist feel of the case.

The Nomad Sport Case also features a microfiber interior and magnets for MagSafe charging. Wireless charging is also supported. The cutouts for the speakers and charging port are precise and plenty large.

The Nomad Sport Case is as stylish as it is protective. The shock-absorbing TPU bumper provides protection from all angles. The Sport Case will keep your iPhone safe from drops up to 6 feet high. When you set your phone down, raised edges will protect the screen. Around the back, the raised camera ring helps to protect those new powerful iPhone lenses.

Overall, the Sport Case is everything I have come to expect from Nomad. It is stylish, well constructed, and uses premium materials. The case fits my iPhone like a glove and is very functional. When it comes to Apple accessories and cases, Nomad just gets it.

What I like

  • Stylish minimalist design
  • Aluminum buttons
  • MagSafe and wireless charging compatibility
  • The high-gloss backplate and TPU bumper provides good grip

What I’d change

  • Not a thing

Final thoughts

The Nomad Sport Case is excellent. If you are looking for a minimalist case with great design and protection, do yourself a favor and grab a Sport Case. In my opinion, everyone should have at least one Nomad case in their collection.

  2. Thanks for the review. A couple of questions: did you actually try dropping the phone from 6′ or are you simply repeating Nomad’s claims for the case? I ask because the only other Nomad product I ever bought was an iPhone cable for the car. Nomad claimed it was just like Apple’s cable (USB-A on one end, Lightning on the other). But using the Nomad cable, CarPlay would often disconnect from the car.
Do you happen to have an Apple Wallet? I’ve always been using a naked phone with a ‘wallet’ stuck to the back – initially adhesive based ones, more recently the magnetic kind from Apple. I find the Apple wallet’s magnetic adhesion pretty weak – sometimes, when I fish my phone out of my jeans pocket, the wallet stays behind 🙁 So I’m worried that it would be worse with a case (does Nomad also have a similar case but with a wallet?)

    1. Thomas,
Thank you for your comments and question. No, I did not test the drop height myself. However, since using the case, I have dropped my phone multiple times, and it is none the worse for wear. I have used several Nomad iPhone cases over the years and never had any issues. I don’t believe they have a magnetic wallet case, but they do have a leather folio case. I hope that I answered all your questions. Thanks for reading and commenting.

  3. Hi, I purchased the same case but in the green color and it looks stunning. However the fit is not 100% great it’s kind of squeaky on the right side. Are you experiencing anything similar?

    1. Jose,
Sorry to hear about your issue. My case fits perfectly without issues. You may want to contact Nomad’s customer service and see if they can help you. Thanks for reading and commenting.
