CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Watches seemed to be a dying thing a while back.  With everyone carrying cellphones, there didn’t seem to be much use for another way to tell time.  Innovative watch manufacturers are turning the tide by introducing interesting and unusual new timepieces that are as much fashion as they are function.

The Electricianz is a Swiss-based boutique watch manufacturer with a distinct, edgy style. They recently kicked off a Kickstarter campaign for their new hybrid mechanical watch.

The watch will be available in seven different designs.

It is called a hybrid as it features both a mechanical automatic self-winding movement as well as a lithium battery-powered LED illumination system.  They list the specs as:

  • Retrograde // hours, minutes & flashing time beat 5 seconds
  • Exclusive in-house electric module paired with a mechanical self-winding movement (8N24 Skeleton  Miyota 21 jewel)
  • Power reserve: 42 hours
  • 1 lithium battery dedicated to the 10 LED’s backlighting system
  • Diameter: 43mm
  • Dial opening: 35mm
  • Lug to lug length: 51mm
  • Stainless steel case, bezel, crown & pusher
  • Finish varies with model
  • Case back: mineral with semi-transparent finishing and UV reflective ELZ codes printing
  • Glass: K1 hardened mineral glass box construction with 2 sides anti-reflective coating
  • Strap: 20mm calfskin leather with a stainless steel quick-release pin and a stainless steel pin buckle
  • Water resistance: 3 ATM

If you’re looking for something unusual to sport on your wrist and dig the idea of a combo of a mechanical movement with cool LED illumination, stop on by their Kickstarter campaign that is live now. The campaign runs through Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 6:07 AM EDT.  In the first few hours of their campaign, they surpassed their $10,950 funding goal.  Rewards start at about $411 at current exchange rates. They are currently targeting February 2022 to start shipping watches to backers.
