Larry’s recent go-to gadget discussion of his old Rotring pen reminded me that Levenger has a pen that’s a bit reminiscent of those pens, but they cost much less than some of those old Rotrings on the secondary market.  Turns out that Levenger is having a sell this weekend on their L-Tech Plus Stealth Ballpoint with Stylus, so you could get yourself a new pen with Rotring-like design at 51% savings.  The L-Tech ballpoint has a brass barrel with a black matte finish that’s been weighted so it feels good in hand.  It has a faceted top so it doesn’t roll on the table and a knurled grip so it doesn’t slip in your fingers.  It’s topped off with a capacitive stylus that can be replaced as needed.  The pen is normally $69, but it’s only $34 through Sunday, February 23.

  2. I’ve got the fountain pen version of this and it’s one of my favorites… looks great, satisfyingly heavy. It’s also on sale fairly often (as is the rollerball as well). The design is slightly different than the ballpoint, in that it has a screw on cap, but it does nicely echo the design of the Rotring (which I would love, but is too expensive for me at the moment now that it’s long out of production). I got mine with a medium nib as it was the only one available at the time, and it’s buttery smooth with just the right amount of feedback; it uses standard screw in nib units so you can replace it with a TWSBI or similar nib for ~$20.

  3. Speaking of Rotring nostalgia, I have on old mechanical pencil made by them in that shape than took 1mm lead. Yes, that is not a typo. I’m very heavy handed and it was a godsend during my undergrad years.
