Working in the computer field and being a computer geek, I love using nice handbags and backpacks to carry all of my gadget gear. I have a weakness for leather and nicely crafted canvas and military inspired items. I recently got the opportunity to review the Staad Laptop BackPack by Waterfield Designs, so let’s take a look!Note: Images can be clicked on to view a larger size.
I absolutely loved this bag from the get go. First off, it’s made to order, and you can choose from a few styles for body material as well as flap color. It also comes in two sizes, “slim” and “stout”. For the body material, you can choose from waxed canvas or black ballistic nylon. For the flap, you can choose from smooth black, chocolate, or grizzly leather. I chose a slim, black ballistic body with black leather flap.
The Staad BackPack has a wonderful padded back, with breathable nylon, and really well made straps.
The black flap felt super smooth and very durable. The front clasp made it easy to open and close the backpack.
Under the flap on the front of the backpack, there is a simple zipper pull that goes halfway down, as well as two side pockets with zipper pulls.
The top handle is also made of the same leather that the flap is made of. It’s the little details that count!
The interior of the backpack is a warm mustard/ color, with a beautiful stitch that feels good to the touch.
I was able to fit my 13″ Macbook Air with charger, along with my Nexus 7, USB cables, portable hard drive, and various tools that I use for work, with plenty of room to spare.
There is also a small clip inside the bag that would be useful to keep your keys or any other device.
I absolutely loved carrying this backpack with me. It’s super sturdy, and yet handsome enough to bring anywhere, from corporate office to a casual meetup. The Waterfield Staad Laptop Backpack is made to order and priced at $319 for the “slim” size, and $329 for the “stout” size. It’s pricey, but so worth it for such a great backpack that fits so much!

Nice but too rich for my blood.
Not a big fan of Waterfield – I have the iPAD case and while the quality is great, I find their products to specific w/ little flexibility. I’ve migrated more to the Tom Bihn products as I put a higher premium on flexibility.
I have the stout (which is still quite slim) in black ballistic with dark brown leather flap. It looks very classy. This pack works as a wearable (or carry by the handle) briefcase with excellent protection for a laptop and an iPad. and a lot more. While the space is not as voluminous or flexible as my all time favorite North Face Recon, it is very nice for urban outings or office settings.
I respectfully suggest you fix the white balance on your camera – these pictures make the product look pretty awful.
