For those of you who aren’t experts in the art of the round ball, a goal isn’t scored unless the whole ball crosses the goal line. Currently there are no video replays in making decisions, so it’s up to the linesman to be in the right spot and to make a judgement call. FIFA, the international body governing World-wide soccer has approved the SELECT iBall for final testing in preparation for use in professional football games.
A copper mesh surrounds the ball and communicates with an antennae array mounted in the goal frame. If the ball fully crosses the goal line, the system automatically sends a signal to a watch worn by the referee.
Mmmmm, iBall, wonder if another company out there might not play ball. 🙂
