Sanofi has what’s probably the first FDA-approved iPod/iPhone accessory with its iBGStar Blood Glucose Monitoring System. But to make best use of it, you’ll probably have to be a diabetic. 🙁 The compact iBGStar module plugs directly into the iPhone or iPod touch and can immediately displays results. The iBGStar Diabetes Manager app allows users to analyze their glucose patterns, record and track readings, monitor intake and insulin doses, and easily share the data with their healthcare professional.
Available from Walgreens and Diabetic Care Services for $74.99 for the meter and $64.99 for 50 test strips, the app is free from the the App Store. It’s also available at Apple.com ($99.95) and will be available in Apple stores soon.

Ive been waiting a year for this to come over from europe – the strips are very expensive and insurance doesnt cover them but its a start in the right direction the product and software are top notch
Interesting to note that iBGStar has a program to buy strips for no more than $20 – which makes the concept affordable for most people.
It does mean keeping track of the docking dongle, but I suppose that’s no different than trekking around with a glucose meter.
