smart car parking trick photo25346Google Labs released a new application on the Android Market called Open Spot to help users identify and find open parking spots.  Users can tag the location of an empty parking space and find open spots around them. The concept sounds interesting and becomes more useful when more people in your area participate.  Different tag colors indicate the age of the open spot, for example, fresh spots are marked with red pins, orange pins are over 5 minutes old and yellow pins are over 10 minutes old.  Spots marked over 20 minutes ago get removed in order to keep the map from getting stale.   This could be a useful application if you live or work in an area where parking is in high demand.  Open Spot is currently available for Android 2.0 and higher.

  2. Conversely, if a driver taking up an Open Spot can mark it Taken & have it instantly updated then I can see this being really useful!
