Samson is announcing an update to their Zoom H4 Handy Recorder. The H4n. It does look a lot nicer than the previous model. It records high-resolution audio at 24bit/96kHz on SD/SDHC media of up to 32GB and is USB 2.0.

I have a Zoom H2 Handy Recorder, which I know is really popular with a lot of people, but I’ve never really liked it all that much. I always found the tiny mono display too hard to see.

  2. I got the H2 because it was 1) cheap and 2) could act as a usb interface device and 3) Could act as a microphone that would fit in the soundproof “room” I made with a foldable cloth cube and acoustic foam that sits on my desktop. The audio quality of the H2 is superb, and while I agree that the screen can be a pain in the butt, did I mention that it was relatively inexpensive? 🙂 That said, the new H4 variant looks interesting. Thanks for the review!

Hey, Julie, do you want to sell that H2? I’d be interested in it if the price was right (as in “cheap”).

Hmmmmm… I’ll have to think about it. Right now it’s the only portable recorder that I have. If I upgrade to something else, I will definitely let it go.
