Happy New Year everyone! Where did 2008 go? Did it pass by as quickly for all of you like it did for me? Typically on January 1st, I look back at the previous year and am either very happy that it’s gone, or a little melancholy. I’m not quite sure what I think about the passing of 2008, but as I have done the past two years, I will try to sum up my feelings in a goodbye old year, hello new year post.
As far as gadgets, there wasn’t any whiz bang new technology that blew us all out of the water. It was pretty much business as usual, with billions of iPhone apps and accessories flooding gadget news sites. I like the iPhone as much as the next gadgeteer, but I’m more than ready for the next big thing. I wonder if 2009 will give us something to make us drool? Maybe it will be from Palm? Stop laughing, I can hope can’t I? 😉
We saw some big changes here at The Gadgeteer with our recent move to WordPress. We’re still working the kinks out and hope you’re all (even you Mark R!) liking the changes so far. We know we still have quite a bit of clean up and polishing to do, so don’t judge us too harshly just yet.
2008 saw a total of 510 posts, that were a combination of reviews and gear diary entries. I wrote over 100 reviews myself and you can thank my team of Dave, Ryan, Mark, Rob and Claire for the rest. Great work guys!
I know I don’t talk a lot about my personal life (mostly because I’m boring and it would put you all to sleep 😉 ), but I would have to say that the best thing to come out of 2008 was that I reconnected with my best friend.
Happy New Year to all of you. For 2009 I wish you much luck, happiness and all the gadgets you can cram into your gear bag!

2008 was quite a year for awesome contests hosted at your site. HP and the gadgeteer make an awesome combo.
i look forward to a great 2009 full of gadget goodness, please keep up the good work!
Thanks Darren!
Hi Julie,
Keep the good stuff coming from your site in 2009! While rather evolutionary, I would say that netbooks were the hot technology for 2008. I am looking forward to more of these models with different form factors, for example, how about a miniature tablet netbook that has a keyboard, and the display swivels 180 and folds over the keyboard. I have heard rumblings that Asus will have a EEE model like this. Lets see what CES brings.. Happy 2009!
David:
I want an Apple tablet! 🙂
I’m quite happy about you reconnecting with your best friend. You need to realize that your charming personality comes across well. I’m sure that we all rejoice at you two dynamite ladies reconnecting.
I am anxiously waiting to see the results!
