Carrera Foldable Helmet

Ever had trouble trying to make a bicycle helmet fit your old noggin?  It normally involves buying a size too big and then using heaps of foam padding to make it fit “comfortably”.  The foldable helmet from Carrera uses an accordion type mechanism to ensure a much better fit without having to muck about with too much padding. In addition it means that you can compress the helmet when you’re not wearing it, making it easier to store or travel with.  There’s no details on pricing or availability yet, but it certainly looks interesting.

And to ask the obvious question, just how safe is it? Just how do they keep it from collapsing when your head hits the pavement?

If I want a folding helmet, I will use a plastic shopping bag from the grocery bag. It will fit in my pants pocket.

Why is it called ‘foldable’ when it clearly isn’t?

Because accordion/concertina helmet just sounds too musical and silly ? :)
