What is it?

The Parafernalia Falter 2D Pen is an easy to build kit for a ballpoint pen.

The Falter 2D is an easy to build kit because it comes with EVERYTHING you need, including a bending tool. You start out by wiggling the aluminum pieces back and forth until they separate. Don’t be like me and throw away that T-shaped piece, which I thought was just a leftover scrap.

The included directions include five steps (watch my video below where I show a timelapse of me putting it together).

Step 1 – Fold up the “wings” and the top of the pen using the included bending tool.

Step 2 – Curve the barrel of the pen.

Step 3 – Insert the P900 Stroke M Parker refill. This was the hardest part for me because the spring kept getting in the way.

Step 4 – Write!

Remember that T-shaped piece that I thought was scrap? It’s actually a stand for the pen.

Another leftover piece is a metric rule.

But how does it feel to write with it? The Falter 2D pen writes fine, but it didn’t blow me away. The edges of the barrel don’t feel all that comfy for long writing sessions. But for a quick jot, it’s fine. It’s definitely not unseated my favorite pen, the Uniball One .38mm gel pen, to become my new everyday writer.

Final thoughts

Overall, the Parafernalia Falter 2D Pen is a fun and creative addition to any desk setup. While it probably won’t replace your go-to pen for long writing sessions, its unique DIY assembly, sleek design, and thoughtful extras like the stand and ruler make it a great conversation piece. If you enjoy hands-on projects or want a pen that’s as much about the experience as the function, this kit is worth considering as a gift.
