Design and features

In addition to keeping our house from smelling like a bunch of dogs, we also wanted to be sensitive to our guests who might have allergies or would be more susceptible to pet dander or pollens. Getting an air purifier made sense and I was eager to try the Morento MR7655-WF Smart Air Purifier.

It’s not a small unit, but not overwhelmingly so. It’s about 10 inches square but almost two feet tall. There is a nice, thick handle to move the unit around. The design is subdued in white and black and looks clean in any room.

There are a few Digital Touch controls and indicators on the top of the unit:

  • Filter Reset Button: tapping this button displays the filter life percentage (based on 2,000 hours)

The Morento MR7655-WF Smart Air Purifier comes with a True HEPA/ Activated Caron Filter and an Aroma pad. We put about 4 drops of essential oil on the Aroma pad. The purifier uses a 3-stage filtration system:

  1. Pre-Filter: captures large particles such as dust, lint, fibers, hair, and pet fur.
  2. H13 True HEPA Filter: trips at least 99.97% of airborne particles 0.3 microns in size and filters small particles such as fine dust, smoke particles, and allergens such as pollen and pet dander.
  3. High-Efficiency Activated Carbon Filter: physically absorbs smoke, orders, and fumes and filters compounds such as formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds).

The accompanying App is helpful and does a good job of visualizing the performance of the Morento MR7655-WF Smart Air Purifier, but essentially performs the same functions. It’s handy to change settings without having to go to the unit.

Assembly, Installation, Setup

The Morento MR7655-WF Smart Air Purifier was very easy to setup. After unpacking the unit from the box and removing the surrounding plastic bag, remove the four strips of tape from the back filter cover.

Remove the rear cover, pull out the True HEPA / Activated Carbon Filters and peel away the plastic cover. Re-insert the filter, making sure to face the tabs outward to easily remove the filter in the future and close the back cover.

To install the app, go to either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store (or the Android APK) and download the Havaworks Smart Home Cloud Manager. Follow the steps to connect to the Morento MR7655-WF Smart Air Purifier. The app replicates all the same functions you can perform on the unit itself.

Performance

I struggled to find a “good” way to measure performance. We recently got a puppy and all that comes with having one in the house. He’s a little guy (at least right now) and don’t expect him to get too big, but we didn’t want our home to smell like a dog. We have an open floor plan, with the living room flowing into the kitchen, flowing into the back room.  Aromas from cooking tend to float throughout this space. I placed the Morento MR7655-WF Smart Air Purifier in the living room and set the fan speed to 2 (out of 4).

These are the PM 2.5 ranges for the fan speed:

  • 1: <50
  • 2: 51-100
  • 3: 101-150
  • 4: 151-500

I had no idea what these numbers meant. I googled ‘PM2.5’ and came up with this:

”A key indicator of air quality is the amount of PM2.5 in the air. PM stands for Particulate Matter and the 2.5 refers to size (matter that has a diameter of 2.5 micrometers or smaller). A micrometer is on thousandth of a millimeter.” – EPA Victoria (link)

The included HEPA/Activated Carbon Filters can effectively filter most airborne particulate pollutants such as PM2.5, dust particles, pet dander, pollen, cigarette smoke and odor, etc.

The Morento MR7655-WF Smart Air Purifier also displays Air Quality by color:

  • Green: Very Good
  • Blue: Good
  • Orange: Moderate
  • Red: Bad

Since I’ve turned it on, the PM2.5 index stays about a 5 or 6, and peaked up to 9 once and always showed the air quality as green. Our house doesn’t smell like we have a dog and usually cooking odors are cleared up within a few hours.

What I like about the Morento MR7655 Smart Air Purifier

  • Quiet, on level 2, it is barely noticeable
  • Extras, essential oil diffuser
  • App, nice to have but not necessary
  • Indicators, can see PM2.5 & Air Quality easily

What needs to be improved?

  • Unclear about how to order replacement filters (no filter model number) I did reach out to customer support and the provided this link (Filter from Amazon)
  • Filter is expensive. Running the purifier 24 hours a day would last about 90 days. Plan on replacing the filter every three months.

Final thoughts

I can recommend the Morento MR7655-WF Smart Air Purifier as it works great in our house keeping it from smelling like a dog kennel. Come to think of it, I think our sneezes have lessened too. I don’t have anything scientific to go by other than how our house smells and how much or how little we and our guests sneeze.

I am considering picking up a second unit and placing it next to my 3D printer to help with the VOC’s. I’m sure it’s overkill but I don’t think it would hurt. Cleaner air = healthier air!
