ARTICLE – I don’t need to go out much since I work from home (WFH). The photo above shows my unconventional WFH setup in our den/office. Space is limited since my husband also works from home. So, when space is a valuable commodity, go vertical! And that’s exactly what I did. Weird, eh? But since I only work part-time this setup suits me!
On the top shelf in front of my TCL Roku Series 6 TV and Visio soundbar is my personal Lenovo Yoga 730 13″ 2-in-1 laptop. I’ve had this for several years now and I still love using it.
Next to my personal laptop is my Logitech M585 mouse (the mouse on the right in the photo above). I like that I can use this mouse with two different devices and I can program or alter any of the buttons and wheel settings using the Logitech Options software. You can also use this mouse to navigate across two computers, but since I can’t install any software on my work computer I can’t use this function :(.
I also use a portable low-profile mouse – the Satechi M1 Wireless Mouse that I reviewed in 2019 (left mouse in the above photo). This mouse is handy to have when I’m out-and-about, but I’ve noticed recently that it needs to be charged frequently.
When I need to travel with my laptop(s), I grab my Satechi mouse and…
…one of my tomtoc 360° Protective Laptop Sleeves. I love these sleeves – they’re well padded to protect my laptop(s) and they have an extra pocket to carry my accessories like…
…my SanDisk 32GB Ultra Dual Drive Go USB Type-C Flash Drive (having USB-C and USB-A connectors is really handy) and…
…my favorite travel charger, the Anker Nano II 65W GaN II PPS Fast Charger, which I reviewed in the fall of 2021. I love that it is small and that it’s a USB-C charger so I can use it to quickly charge my laptop and…
…my awesome Pixel 6 Pro. I use this phone for almost everything like shopping, reading, listening to podcasts, watching my streaming services, taking photos, making periodic calls, etc. This is my go-to powerhouse device.
On the second shelf of my setup, I have my Dell work laptop. Next to that laptop is my KYY K3 15.6-inch USB-C portable monitor that I reviewed in 2021. Because I am limited in the amount of vertical space I have on the second shelf, only a portable monitor will fit here. And of course, it is great to be able to grab it and go whenever I need to. It works well and is affordable.
Since our office is a media room too, we have a Sony Blu-ray player and an Xbox One located on the second shelf.
On the third shelf, I have another work laptop. This shelf also has one of my Google Nest Hubs (the original Google Nest Hub) that I really enjoy using to control IoT devices in our home, see the time and weather, view my Google Photos, etc. It’s my desk’s photo frame, virtual assistant, and speaker all in one!
I also have a stand for my phone on the third shelf as well as our Xerox Duplex Combo Scanner. This scanner is really handy to have when you want to quickly scan large double-sided documents which my husband who is an engineer seems to have plenty of.
What do I sit on while working? Usually, I sit on the floor or use my JINGXIN Cotton & Linen Floor Seating Pad Round Futon Stool which is comfy enough for me and small enough that it stores neatly beneath the third shelf out of the way when I’m not using it.
In addition to all of the above, we have an Aurora AU1020MA cross-cut paper shredder (which cuts up CDs and credit cards too) and a small bookcase to hold our work binders and engineering drawings.
Last but not least, on top of the bookcase is my UE Megaboom 3 Bluetooth speaker which I periodically use to play music. It’s portable and has nice bass.
We’ll see how long this setup works for me but so far, so good!
