NEWS – You can never be too rich or too thin – or have too many ports. OK, I added that last part, but it’s true, isn’t it? The CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 4 tries to prove my point, by fitting 18 ports into a single box!
What is it?
A multiport break-out box that adds a huge cluster of additional ports.
Hardware specs
The hardware dock has an external 230W power supply (which allows the user to keep things connected and charging, even when the host computer is disconnected, as well as running your portable devices from it without worrying about having too many things charging at once!) There is also support in the dock for the Apple SuperDrive, so that you don’t have to dismount and mount that hardware separately. Also included are a ThunderBolt 4 cable (.8m) and a set of rubber feet to prevent it skidding across the table when you’re plugging and unplugging things.
Here’s a list of the ports from CalDigit’s website:
- 3 x Thunderbolt 4 (40Gb/s)
- 3 x USB-C (10Gb/s)
- 5 x USB-A (10Gb/s)
- 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
- 1 x SD 4.0 (UHS-II)
- 1 x microSD 4.0 (UHS-II)
- 1 x 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet
- 1 x Front Combo Audio In/Out (3.5mm)
- 1 x Rear Audio Out (3.5mm)
- 1 x Rear Audio In (3.5mm)
- 1 x DC In (19.5V 11.80A)
“The Thunderbolt Station 4 is $360 and the first batch of the dock has already sold out. CalDigit is taking pre-orders for the next batch, which the company says will ship in March.“ Looks like they have struck a vein of gold within the Mac Power User community! Hopefully, we can get one to check out here at The Gadgeteer as well.
