CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Even though traveling isn’t something a lot of us are doing right now, I have my fingers crossed that by this fall I might get to take a vacation that isn’t a staycation. If that happens, I’ll be figuring out the best way to travel light and the OmniCase which just launched on Kickstarter looks like an interesting accessory for my gear bag.
What is it?
OmniCase is a travel-friendly USB-C docking station that has the ports you need for your devices. But unlike other docking stations which have a cable dangling from one end, The OmniCase has a built-in magnetic storage case that holds cables and adapters.
Why do I like it?
I like the OmniCase because it is compact, while still offering the following features:
4K HDMI support
USB-C 100W PD Charging
2 USB 3.0 ports
SD card reader
micro SD (TF) card reader
Ethernet port
But the biggest feature that caught my eye is the detachable magnetic cord and adapter organizer that attaches to the top of the hub. This organizer holds a USB-C to USB-C cable, USB-C to Lightning cable, USB-C female to USB-A adapter, USB-C female to micro USB adapter, a SIM card eject tool, and a SIM card slot. The only thing missing from the kit is an HDMI cable.
The USB-C PD port on OmniCase delivers up to 100 watts of power, which means you can quickly charge a new Macbook or other USB-C devices at full speed while having all other ports in use. (The actual power delivered to the laptop while charging depends on the wattage of the device.) Besides the fast power delivery, this USB 3.1 Type-C female port supports up to 10Gbps data transfer as well, allowing you to move any HD movies in seconds.
Where can I find more info?
