I’m mostly a recreational rider, but I can image that for those of you who ride your bicycles more than a couple of miles, you feel just how stiff you and your bike are. The ShockStop is a shock absorbing stem that fits between your handlebars and the front frame of your bike. The stem pivots up and down as you hit road bumps absorbing the vertical energy and allowing your hands, arms, shoulders and hence the rest of your body to gain the benefit of having a smoother ride.
Each stem comes with a number of different stiffness elastomers that can be swapped out, letting you tune the ShockStop’s road-feel to match your riding style…The ShockStop uses the same sealed cartridge bearings that are used in high-end mountain bike suspension pivots, and the forged aluminum components are extremely torsionally rigid, so climbing and sprinting feel completely natural. The travel is also specifically limited to 1-2 centimeters (6°) – enough to provide amazing cushioning against most road impacts, without affecting the geometry or handling of your bike.

This is an old idea. There have been several stems like this on the market, but they have never become a success.
