Globes by themselves are both educational and cool, but MOVA globes take the cool factor to all new heights. These globes have a rotating inner sphere with graphics that is contained within a clear acrylic outer shell. The thin space between the inner globe and outer shell is filled with a clear fluid that buoyantly supports the inner globe so that it can spin freely without friction. Inside the globe are solar cells, and the graphics on the globe allow just enough light to pass through to energize the solar cells and power the globe’s motor. When it’s exposed to natural or artificial light, the MOVA globe starts to turn.

Check out this video to see it in action. Once you see it, you’ll want one. I know I do.

MOVA Globes are available in 4.5in, 6in, 8.5in and 10in versions. They can be found on various online stores including Amazon and have prices from $126 and up depending on design and size.

  2. The one with the clouds. I saw it at one of those trade shows awhile back. It’s a nice addition to my office desk.
