What if the “chores” of maintaining a fishtank and herb garden suddenly took care of themselves, allowing you more time to, well, do just about anything else? The AquaFarm from Back to the Roots is a closed loop eco-system that does just that! Your fish does his little fish thing on the bottom and the filter recycles the fish waste, water, and tank scum up to fertilize the fresh herbs and plants growing above. It’s aquaponics in action! That just leaves you to admire and feed your fish, while eating your new supply of organic herbs.
The AquaFarm includes the full system, seeds, and a coupon for a Betta fish and is available for $59.99 .

They make cool stuff 🙂 Their oyster mushroom kits are VERY cool:http://www.rainydaymagazine.com/RDM2013/Home/June/Week3/RDMHomeJun1713.htm#GrowYourOwnMushroomsUpdate
Not only did we get a few crops from the kit, but when we “recycled” it in the RainyDayGarden, it mushroomed a few more times!
This fishtank looks like a better alternative to the NoClean Aquarium we told everyone about last month. This one actually lives up to the no cleaning claim! I don’t really like mushrooms (at least not the slimy slug slice type), but I think it would be fun to try one of their growing kits. I’ve been converting over to eating as much organic and non-processed food as possible, so it would be fun to incorporate even more with the help of a gadget. 🙂
Mushrooms are not suppose to be slimy! I think yours might have been left in the fridge too long 🙂 They are an excellent alternative for vegetarians who want something with a meaty texture. Like tofu, they will pick up a lot of the flavor of the spices used to cook them.
Once started, they also grow extremely quickly…which is cool all by itself!!!
