Android gives buyers access to compatible apps and more configuration choices than a closed system. Bluetooth can be useful for wireless audio and controllers, while the headphone jack gives players a wired option.
It does not, however, make the handheld automatically simple. Buyers may need to configure emulators, manage their own legally obtained game files, adjust settings, and learn the interface. Approach the Pocket BLOCK as a small Android device with gaming controls, not as a guaranteed ready-to-play catalog of classic games.
The Helio G85 sets expectations
The Pocket BLOCK uses MediaTek’s Helio G85 chip and a 3,500mAh battery, according to launch information reported from an AYANEO product-sharing session. During that presentation, AYANEO CEO Arthur Zhang said the handheld could play PSP games without trouble. That is a company claim, not an independently verified performance result.
The specifications make older 2D games and less-demanding retro systems the sensible starting point. Performance in any particular game will depend on the emulator, settings, and configuration. Without independent testing, it is too early to promise smooth results across an entire console library.
That does not make the hardware a poor choice; it helps define its purpose. If GameCube, PlayStation 2, or demanding modern Android games are your priority, look for a more powerful handheld with a larger screen and analog controls. AYANEO has called the Pocket BLOCK the “world’s first AI gaming handheld.” That is the company’s marketing claim. Its earlier announcements described an AI-powered experience in broad terms without clearly explaining which features buyers could use or how they would improve a game session.
Future software features might prove useful, but they are not yet a sound reason to buy the device. Until KONKR details those functions and independent reviewers test them, judge the Pocket BLOCK on what is more concrete: its compact design, 4:3 screen, Android platform, connectivity, and gaming controls.
Price, shipping, and extra costs
Launch reporting lists early-bird prices of $79 for the 2GB/32GB model and $99 for the 3GB/64GB model, with stated regular prices of $89 and $109, respectively. When checked for this article, the official store displayed the 3GB/64GB configuration at $99. Confirm the selected model and current price before paying, since promotions and availability can change.
The store also says the final payment does not include taxes or duty fees. Depending on where you live, those charges could make a noticeable difference to the delivered cost of a budget handheld.
AYANEO has said international orders are expected to begin shipping at the end of October. Treat that as an estimate rather than a delivery guarantee, and check the store for updates before ordering.
