A tiny PC built around expansion

The EVO-X1 Pro is a Windows 11 Pro mini PC built around AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 470. GMKtec pairs it with 64GB of soldered LPDDR5 at 6400MT/s, which is useful for development tools, virtual machines, large browser sessions, creative apps, and local-AI experiments. The memory cannot be upgraded.

Storage is more flexible. GMKtec lists two M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots, with 1TB and 2TB configurations. Its spec sheet caps each slot at 4TB for 8TB total, and both slots require NVMe because SATA M.2 is not supported.

The HX 470 is not the headline

AMD lists 12 cores and 24 threads, split between four Zen 5 cores and eight Zen 5c cores, with up to 5.2GHz boost, a 2.0GHz base clock, 36MB of combined L2 and L3 cache, and a 28W default TDP. Compared with the original EVO-X1’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, the headline uplift is narrow: 100MHz more boost, GMKtec-listed Radeon 890M graphics at 3.1GHz instead of 2.9GHz, and up to 55 NPU TOPS instead of 50.

That makes the HX 470 look more like a clock adjustment than a new performance tier. It is also Ryzen AI 9 HX 470, not Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 470, so the official material does not establish AMD PRO features, ECC memory, or enterprise management.

Integrated graphics, with an escape hatch

AMD’s Radeon 890M is one of the better integrated graphics options in this class. It should handle esports, older games, indie titles, light emulation, cloud gaming, everyday creative work, and tuned 1080p play with upscaling. It still shares system memory, so it is not a replacement for a discrete GPU in high-refresh AAA gaming, 4K gaming, serious ray tracing, or VR.




That is where OCuLink matters. Think of it less as a built-in gaming feature and more as the pressure-release valve for this tiny PC. The EVO-X1 Pro can run on Radeon 890M graphics day to day, then hand heavier GPU work to an external card over a PCIe 4.0 x4 link when the setup justifies it. The catch is cost and friction: the dock, power supply, cable, and graphics card can turn the upgrade path into a second system budget.

Results will depend on the GPU, dock, power supply, drivers, display connection, BIOS, and workload. For best results, the external monitor should usually connect directly to the eGPU.

The useful upgrades and the tradeoffs

The 64GB configuration is the Pro’s strongest practical choice. It gives developers, creators, lab builders, and local-AI hobbyists more room than the 32GB systems common in this class. The catch is bandwidth. GMKtec specifies LPDDR5 at 6400MT/s, while the cheaper original EVO-X1 shipped LPDDR5X at 7500MHz. That matters most for integrated graphics and local AI work that lean on memory bandwidth.




Dual Intel I226-V 2.5Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4 give the EVO-X1 Pro a stronger home-lab identity than a typical office mini PC. One Ethernet port can handle the regular LAN while the other serves storage, virtualization, or a test network. The remaining I/O includes four USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, USB4, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, OCuLink, and 3.5mm audio. GMKtec also lists triple-display support up to 8K at 60Hz on HDMI and DisplayPort, which is worth checking if your setup depends on specific refresh-rate combinations.

Cooling is another claim to treat carefully. GMKtec lists a vapor chamber, dual-fan cooling, a dedicated system fan, and three modes: 35W Silent, 54W Balanced, and up to 65W Performance. AMD lists a 28W default TDP for the HX 470 and a configurable 15W to 54W range, so GMKtec’s top mode is a system-level tuning claim, not AMD’s processor spec.

Local AI is a bonus, not the reason

GMKtec Claw may become useful later, but it should not drive a $1,600 purchase. GMKtec says it is preinstalled for local AI agents, but the product page does not establish its model list, privacy terms, account requirements, licensing, or update plan.




The 55 NPU TOPS and 86 total system TOPS figures are capability indicators, not local-LLM speed ratings. Real performance depends on the model, quantization, backend, drivers, and whether the app uses the NPU, GPU, or CPU. The 64GB memory pool helps with experimentation, but Radeon 890M is not in the same class as the GPU and memory-bandwidth resources in a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 system, Mac Studio, or DGX Spark.

Price, buyers, and the bottom line

GMKtec’s U.S. page lists $1,599.99 for 64GB and 1TB, or $1,769.99 for 64GB and 2TB, with early-bird code X1PL20 advertised for $20 off. Early launch coverage put the starting price at $1,471, so the current listing is already higher than the debut figure. The page also lists no import fees, a 7-day return, a 1-year warranty, and delivery generally in 1 to 2 weeks. Confirm stock, shipping origin, taxes, duties, and final return terms before ordering.

The original EVO-X1 remains the key comparison. GMKtec lists its HX 370 model at $1,149.99 for 32GB and 1TB, with LPDDR5X at 7500MHz. If you find it discounted, it may still be better for office work, storage expansion, and occasional eGPU use. The Pro earns its premium only when 64GB, Wi-Fi 7, and current availability matter.

Buy the EVO-X1 Pro if you need 64GB now for development, VMs, creative work, or local-AI experiments, and you also want dual NVMe slots, dual 2.5GbE, and OCuLink in a very small Windows system. Skip it if you expect replaceable RAM, a barebones option, easy long-term repair, high-end gaming without an external GPU, CUDA support, workstation-class GPU throughput, or a proven local-LLM appliance.
