REVIEW – While I may not be an audiophile in the sense of chasing increasingly more expensive high end audio equipment, I really love and appreciate music. I love trying and reviewing headphones and earbuds to see what new technology brings to the table. A brand that I hadn’t heard of before, EarFun, recently came out with a new set of earbuds, the EarFun Air Pro 4+, with some nice specs and I decided to give them a try. Read on to see how they’ve held up!

Design and features
At first glance, the overall design of these earbuds isn’t too dissimilar from a lot of earbuds currently on the market. That’s to be expected, honestly, because there aren’t a ton of ways to differentiate at this level of design without digging further into the materials and internal design and programming.

There are a number of interesting features packed into these earbuds. Bluetooth 6.0 is good to see, but kind of expected at this point for new releases. Active Noise Cancelling is also a good addition and they also include a pass-through sounds option. Six microphones are included in different parts to facilitate both the noise cancellation and improved sound quality. There are more features that you could probably just read the advertising for, but the one feature that most piqued my interest was the LDAC codec support. I first ran into LDAC (Lossless Digital Audio Codec) on a set of DJ headphones I reviewed a while back and I was super impressed at that time. It claims to be able to transmit up to 3 times the data over a Bluetooth connection. The LDAC option on these earbuds is activated in the app as you can see below. There are a few hoops to jump through to enable this, but I think it’s definitely worth it in sound quality.

Setup
First step. Charge them up! USB C charging cable, should be quick as they come with a partial charge.
Instructions!

Install the app! Available on both iOS and Android stores. Upon installation, get the latest updates for the earbuds. They’re pretty new at this point, so there are a few updates that you’re going to want to install if you can.

Performance
I have to say that initially these earbuds had a quirk I didn’t care for. There seemed to be an issue with the in-ear detection being too sensitive or something of that nature, because while I was listening to an audiobook it would just stop playing after I moved my jaw or head. I found that turning off the in-ear detection fixed the problem, but that brought its own complication. Thankfully, the most recent firmware update seems to have addressed the problem, so kudos to EarFun for recognizing and fixing the problem.
As to fit, I’ve enjoyed wearing these earbuds. They stay in my ears even when jogging on a treadmill and walking around outside. I really don’t like it when an earbud doesn’t stay put, so these have been pleasant to wear and haven’t caused any pain or twinges even after several hours of wear.

Battery life is pretty great. Depending on your use of noise cancellation, your mileage may vary a bit, but without ANC these tout up to 12 hours of life and with ANC on up to 8 hours before you have to put them back in the case to charge.
Final thoughts
Overall, these are pretty great earbuds and there are more features and functions included in the app than I’ll ever use, so you can customize and adapt them however you need to. I was glad to see that the firmware update addressed the one issue I had, so there isn’t really anything to complain about. Even the pass-through audio sounds great and there isn’t any weird sound attenuation like I’ve seen in other earbuds. I definitely recommend.

What I like about the EarFun Air Pro 4+ Earbuds
- LDAC audio codec and sound quality is fantastic
- They stay in my ears!
- Very robust app with lots of features and customization
- Good battery life
What needs to be improved?
- Make a case that doesn’t pop open and launch the earbuds out when I drop it on the floor. (Yeah, that’s kind of a me problem, I know)
