REVIEW – I seem to keep adding more stuff on the crafting table (thank you, Ikea!) that I have set up in my office.  I have a very nice floor lamp that I reviewed from Honeywell that I used to light up my desk, and it worked great.  After acquiring the WeCreate Vision Pro laser engraver, I noticed it blocks some of the light on the far left side of the table.  I use the left side of the table for various projects, including the occasional Lego build, as you can see in the picture above.  Yes, my dog is questioning why I am taking his picture again! So when the Trond LED Desk Lamp with AC power strip came up for review, I figured it would be the perfect solution to my dilemma, and I was lucky enough to get chosen to review it.

What is it?

The Trond LED desk lamp with power strip has four AC power strips (sorry, no USB-A or USB-C ports) with built-in surge protection.  It has three different lighting modes along with five different levels of brightness.  It has a long adjustable gooseneck that makes it easy to position the light where you want it.

What’s included?

  • Super easy list! Just the lamp itself.  The power cord and clamp are all built in.

Gooseneck is 23.62 inches

Design and features

The clamp that you use to attach the light to a table can handle a table depth of 2.36 inches.  It is easy to adjust and clamps onto the table with enough force that I could not move the light base around once I had it set in place.  It has a rubber foot, so it should not damage the table.  If you wanted, you could even use the clamp to mount the light along the side of the table leg, since the clamp is not very deep on the mount.

The power cord is a full six feet.  It comes with a nice velcro strap, should you need to roll up part of the cord.

One feature I really like is that the plug itself is super thin.  It is only .33 inches deep.  This makes it perfect for plugging in behind furniture.  In the picture below, you can see it plugged into an outlet along with a standard plug.

The base of the lamp has four AC outlets.  They are pretty far apart so they should allow some larger power bricks to plug in next to each other.

On the top left side of the base you will find the main power switch.  Turning this switch on will activate the surge protector indicated by the green LED, and power up the AC outlets.  It will not turn the light on.

The right side of the base features the power switch for the light, along with up and down arrows for adjusting the light brightness.  There are three different light modes.  To change a light mode, you need to press and hold the power button for a few seconds.  To turn the light on and off, press it once.  The buttons are capacitive, and it took a bit of playing around for me to get the feel for operating the light.  It took multiple presses at first for me to get the light to turn on.  I almost wish the power button had a more pronounced tactile feel.

The light is on a long gooseneck that is adjustable up to 360 degrees.

Here you can see a picture of my iPad plugged into the base of the lamp.  There was still enough room for me to plug in a standard plug into the outlet next to it.

Performance

Overall, I have been pretty happy with this light.  It lights up the left side of my table very well.  The fact that it has a surge protected outlet is a bonus for me.  I had the power cord for my iPad running all the way down to another power strip I had on the floor.  Now I can easily plug it in on the table top when I need to recharge it.

It was challenging to capture the full range of colors the light can display.  Look closely at how the table top color changes in each picture.  The first picture is the 5500K white color, followed by the warm, and then the natural.  The warm setting made my table top look almost orange compared to the bright white.  I ended up leaving the light in the third ‘natural’ setting.

Final thoughts

If you are looking for an adjustable table top light with a power strip and surge protection, this is a pretty good choice.  It is affordable even with the higher tariffs being in place.  It has a long enough power cord, and the thin plug makes it easy to put behind furniture. My only complaint is the capacitive buttons.  I wish they were tactile to make it easier to turn the light off and on.  Luckily, it has built-in memory, so once you have set your light mode and level of brightness, you should not have to change it often in the future.

What I like about the Trond LED Desk Lamp

  • Built-in surge protector and power strip.
  • Long power cord with thin plug.
  • Three light modes and five levels of brightness.
  • Very adjustable light head.

What needs to be improved?

  • Replace capacitive buttons with tactile buttons.
