REVIEW – I have worn a variety of Fitbit watches over the last 15 years, and I’ve recently started thinking that I’d like to explore some of the other smartwatches on the market to see how they compare. The Fitbits I’ve had up until now have done their job of tracking my steps and heartbeat fine along with the other basic watch functions, but I feel like it’s a more minimalist feature set compared to some other options out there. I hadn’t heard of the brand before, but the KKTICK Tank T5 Rugged Smartwatch came up for review and touted a ton of different features that really intrigued me. Read on to see how it has held up to wear over the past few weeks!

Design and features
The Tank T5 smartwatch definitely lives up to its name. It is a very solidly built watch with some serious heft to it. It has two selector buttons on the right hand side of the watch for entering different function menus in addition to a built-in touch screen. Between the two selector buttons is also a little GPS antenna bar. There are also an incredible number of different digital watch faces that are available for free and even more available for purchase.
Some of the watch faces are more functional than others. Changing between watch faces is extremely easy as well.
The touch screen on this watch has a lot of great features. Navigating on the device is similar to navigation on a phone or tablet.
It would be very difficult to go through every single application and function that they’ve put into this watch. One interesting feature is a built-in barometer and altimeter. The reading here compared to the reading online seemed a bit off and the altitude was off by about 300 ft as well, but I think that’s something that will need some time and calibration to dial in.
The heart rate monitor seemed to be pretty accurate. It’s also one of the main options when you swipe on the screen.
Setup
Charging this smartwatch uses a special four-prong magnetic charging base. It only will line up and attach if you line things up correctly.
This watch pairs with the WearPro app and allows you to further configure and update the watch. The app has a lot of functions and it can be a bit busy to navigate.
Firmware updates are performed through the app.
The app also records your steps and has several fitness app features like badges for step counts.
Performance
First thing I had to test out was how the step counts compared against my current Fitbit. The picture doesn’t quite do it justice, but there was a fair amount of difference between the two. The Fitbit was still more accurate than the Tank from the testing and comparison over a few days.

Final thoughts
This is a fun smartwatch with so many features added in that it’s kind of hard to navigate and find everything. It almost feels like a smartphone crammed into a very tiny touch screen. In the time that I’ve had the watch so far they have already had a fairly significant update, but it does seem that the watch needs some polish on the UI just because of the sheer amount of stuff that they have included. One area that I immediately tried out was the offline maps functionality and the process to put the map on the phone takes several steps and includes a laptop, so some polish would definitely go a long way. Overall, it’s a fun watch to wear and I think it will continue to get better.

What needs to be improved?
- Putting offline maps on the watch is a multi-step process
- Clean up the UI a bit
- The decibel meter is way too fast and you can’t easily read what the high points are when you’re in a loud environment like a concert
