REVIEW – I try to spend a lot of time outside – riding bikes, camping, at the lake, skiing, or anything else that I can find to do. It’s often convenient to have a chair around to relax in, sit down while changing shoes, or to plop in a canoe for a third seat. The Dakine Folding Camp Chair is designed for all of those things – this chair has lived in the back of my truck for the last month and has seen use in all of these situations, and it excels.

Design and features
This is a pretty simple chair. The design emphasis is clearly on being lightweight and comfortable. The seating height is a “medium” meaning it’s not completely low like a beach chair, but not full height either. This allows the chair to have a compact frame while still being comfortable. There are no carry handles or straps on the chair, but it’s very easy to grab the frame from any location and carry with ease. There are removable rubber feet at the bottom of each leg to help keep the chair from sinking into soft ground, but this chair would probably not work well in deep beach sand. There is a small pocket on the back for a phone or magazine, but not much more.
Performance
It is light, compact, and comfortable. It’s been my companion for the last month, and has traveled with me to the lake, to a family vacation where it was abused by little kids, to several bike races, and everywhere in between. The only thing I found missing was a cup holder. Even a small fabric one like I have seen on some other chairs that would be screwed right in the leg (I’ll probably add one from an old chair to mine!). I think anything called “camp chair” should have a cup holder. Also, the pocket in the back is a nice addition, but it could be improved. The pocket is very tight, limiting what fits in it. And it’s so tight that anything that you put il will push against your back. A pleat or two in this pocket would help a lot toward both comfort and capacity.
Final thoughts
Overall, the Dakine folding chair is a great camp chair that hits high marks in durability, comfort, and portability. Add a cup holder and expand the pocket, and it’s perfect.
