Design and features

The basic design of this robot vacuum/mop is similar to most others I’ve seen on the market, vaguely like a little UFO. The first thing that struck me when I unboxed it was the size and layout of the sensors on the front of this thing. It truly looks impressive. My kid still wants to put googly eyes on it.

The charging base for this device is very simple. It has two metal pads and some tech to help the device line up and dock on its own, but that’s about it.

The underside of the vacuum looks like this:

It has a large mopping pad, a vacuum brush and a sweeper brush for corners and edges, and a couple of very sturdy wheels. All of the cleaning pads and brushes are removeable for cleaning and/or replacement.

The dust/dirt collector is easy to remove and just nests in the top of the device. It has a handle that locks into place.

Yes, the robot was out for like 30 seconds and already has dog hair on it. There are also handy instructions on how to clean out the dirt bin.

The water reservoir for the mop also easily unlatched and is easy to fill up with water.

Fill spot is just under the rubber cap on the left side of the reservoir.

Assembly, Setup

Out of the box, very little assembly is required. It mainly consists of finding a good spot to locate the base, which does need a plug somewhere nearby, and removing any packaging or padding to protect the device in shipping. Once the base is situated and plugged in, you can start charging, which is recommended before proceeding further.

The app is a crucial part of operating this device. It allows you to monitor, control, and update the device as needed, so you will need to be prepared to install on your Apple or Android device. After app install and creating an account, you can connect to the device and you will want to make sure that you install the latest updates available. Pretty easy, just give it some time and you’ll be set.

After the app is up and running and the device is charged, you’re going to need to build a map of the floor in whatever space(s) you wish to clean. The first run takes a bit and will go through and scan the dimensions of the rooms, the types of flooring, and any obstacles such as couches, chairs, shoes, etc. I didn’t want to put a full map of my house on the internet, so here’s a slice of the kitchen and living room. The textured space is carpet and the clear space is where we have tile, which comes in handy when you are setting mop versus vacuum settings. You can also see the gray area where the robot could look out a glass door outside. It can’t go there, but it did build that part out still.

Performance

Here’s the real meat of the review. How did it do? After multiple passes and use over a few weeks, I have to say that the vacuum is pretty great. It’s thorough and picks up a lot of the dust and hair that accumulates. The promo says that it has a dust compressor that allows you to go up to 60 days before cleaning out the bin, but I don’t agree. The compressor is a nice function and allows the robot to run for longer before cleaning, but your mileage on this one is going to vary a huge degree based on the amount of area you’re cleaning, the frequency, and how many people you have in your home.

I did find it amusing to see the robot get stuck in one spot, so you need to watch it the first time or two to see if there are problem spots where you may need to move things around a bit. Here’s one spot it got stuck and required help to get out of. It got wedged in pretty tight.

Another concern, especially when you’re first mapping, is cables that the robot may not be able to see. I had a couple of pedals on a kid’s drumset get sucked in and stuck. I’m glad that the device was smart enough to stop and not burn out any motors.

3i G10 Robot Vacuum 12

Moving on, I am not super impressed by the mop functionality, sadly. The size of the water reservoir is not very large and after making a couple of runs through the kitchen, the mop did clean up some spots but left others. With multiple passes you might have a better experience, but another thing you’ll need to do is clean the mop pad after each cleaning. If you don’t, I think you may end up with a smelly mop, especially since there isn’t a great deal of airflow to dry things out after use.

The amount of water used in one run of just the kitchen.

3i G10 Robot Vacuum 4

Hard to see, but several spots that weren’t picked up by the mop after two runs.

3i G10 Robot Vacuum 21

I did notice that the mop function was a bit streaky as well. That may go away with multiple runs, but I think in general the mop functionality isn’t this robot’s forte.

Final thoughts

I really like the vacuum functionality on this robot. I was not super impressed by its ability to mop, but it did shine on the vacuum side and I have to say that the app is great. Mop aside, I think this is a good vacuum and will come in handy quite a bit, especially as we head into summer and have the kids at home more during the day and tracking dirt into the house. I am impressed by the auto-sensing capabilities as well. The app will flag things on the floor and actively avoid them. While my dog is house-trained, the app will recognize if they have pooped on the floor and avoid cleaning up that spot, something I’ve heard is a horrific experience with other robot vacuums.

What I like about the 3i G10+ Robot Vacuum

  • Fantastic app that allows you to monitor and control the robot real-time
  • Great vacuum and dust consolidation
  • Hair cleaning function once it returns to base
  • Battery life is great and lasts the entire cleaning cycle

What needs to be improved?

  • Mopping is sub-par
