REVIEW—I have a crafting table in my office at home that I use to do various projects. I build Legos, mess with my 3D prints from my 3D printer, solder, and even use it to coat cutting boards I have made with mineral oil. The picture above has my little triangle holders on the desk that support the boards off the table while they cure.   You would think that when we built this house, we would have planned to have better light in this room besides the meager light put out by a single ceiling fan.  Alas, we did not think ahead, and I have been searching for a good floor lamp that can give me adequate lighting for my projects.  Honeywell makes several different floor lamps, and I was lucky enough to be chosen to review their model 05D01 Artist Floor Lamp.

Design and features

The Honeywell 05D01 Artist Floor Lamp is controlled by three touch buttons on the pole. The top button is the power button. A single touch will turn the lamp on and off. You can also double-click the power button to activate a delayed light-off scenario. The light will adjust down to 5% brightness and then turn off after 30 seconds. You can touch any other button while this is happening to cancel the scenario and return to the previous light state.

The middle button is the read-write mode key. When pressed, it emits a beep, and the light’s color temperature is set to 4000 K. The bottom button is the painting/drawing mode. It emits a beep when pressed, and the light’s color temperature is set to 5000 K.

The lamp’s brightness can be adjusted from 5% to 100%. You adjust by holding the power button down and letting go when you reach your desired brightness. It will dim all the way down, and then when you press and hold the button again, it will light all the way back up. The pictures below show the lamp at 5% and 100%.  The lamp will remember your last setting when you turn it on again.

The lamp has two places where it can change its position.  The first is on the pole where you can raise and lower the lamp to the desired height.

Honeywell 12

The second place is a swivel joint that holds the lamp to the pole. It allows you to contort the lamp into many positions.

Assembly, Installation, Setup

The base of the Honeywell 05D01 Artist Floor Lamp is very heavy. It has a built-in bolt and a hole for the check screw to hold the lamp pole in place. The bottom has heavy-duty rubber feet that hold the lamp in place well on my tile floor.

The bottom pole has a place for the screw from the base to go in.  At the top of the pole it has a knurled screw that will hold the top pole of the lamp in place.

The top pole that holds the lamp has a metal section that inserts into the bottom pole.  The entire lamp pole is made of metal and feels sturdy and heavy-duty.  You can also see the nicely braided power cord coming out of the pole’s top section.

The power cord plugs into the adapter in only one direction.

Performance

I really love the Honeywell 05D01 Artist Floor Lamp. I set it to drawing mode (5000 k) at its highest setting, which lights up my desk area well. Because the light fixture is wide, I can set it horizontally to cover as much of my table as possible. I like keeping the table up against my back wall, so I needed a light that can light up the table well from the side.

I took two pictures of a cutting board I made to see if you could tell the difference between the 4000 K and the 5000 K.  It is really hard to tell in the pictures. However, in person, the 4000 K is warmer in tone, and the 5000 K is more like natural light, which is what you want for painting and true-color viewing.

Final thoughts

The Honeywell 05D01 Artist Floor Lamp is my new favorite lamp for lighting up my workspace. It is a lot more expensive than some of the other lamps you can find on Amazon, but the build quality and lighting ability really make this lamp worth the expense.  If you are looking for a floor lamp to light up a workspace or even a reading area, I highly recommend this lamp.

What I like about Honeywell 05D01 Artist Floor Lamp

  • Two light modes.
  • Very bright and covers a lot of area.
  • Super adjustable

What needs to be improved?

  • It is a bit more expensive than other lamps, but I feel you get what you pay for.
