REVIEW – Gear storage and packing it around keeps me on the lookout for better and more effective solutions. Wautton has a variety of different products and their waist pack looked like a nice option to test out. It’s larger than a normal fanny pack and is configured differently than other packs I’ve used in the past. Read on to see how it holds up!
What is it?
The Wautton Waist Pack is a midsized pack that can be easily slung over a shoulder or around your waist. It can also be separated into two parts that both can be used independently on their own.

Design and features
The design of this waist pack is like a cross between a fanny pack and a shoulder bag. It can function in both configurations equally well and the materials are solid. The one feature that I’m still unsure of is in separating the smaller front portion of the bag from the larger body piece. I guess it’s nice that it’s two bags in one, I just don’t see myself using that particular feature much. The smaller detachable bag comes with its own lighter strap if you decide to use it.
The latch on the strap is one of the most interesting parts of this bag. It’s designed to pivot and give you more flexibility in wearing the bag. I haven’t seen one like this before and thought it was a nice addition to the bag.
Performance
The fabric and materials that this bag is made from are very nice. I tried to determine the exact fabric type, but couldn’t find it in the packaging or on the website. The zippers are durable and the fabric looks like it should take a fair amount of abuse.
You can use the space between the two bag sections to carry things like a tripod or other larger items that won’t fit within a bag itself. I wanted to see if I could use this bag as a lightweight laptop bag and figured out a way to jerry-rig it together, but I don’t think it’s a great fit for that use case. While it does work, I worry that due to the size and weight it would eventually work its way out.
As you can tell below, it works in this configuration, but I don’t think it’s a great everyday solution.
This bag holds quite a bit. I think the biggest limitation of what you put in this bag is how much weight you are willing to carry around. The largest pocket also has several storage compartments for gear.
Midsized notebooks and tablets fit well, along with books and most other gear I would expect to be hauling around.
All zipped up, and even with a laptop and case, it all holds together well.
Final thoughts
This is not a small bag. If you’re looking for something small and inobtrusive this isn’t your bag, but it is a great midsized bag, which is what I was looking for. At the price point it’s also a great deal considering the materials it’s made from. I think it would be a great pack for short hikes or carrying stuff around at amusement parks like Disney.
