KICKSTARTER NEWS – I use a MacBook Pro for my work computer.  Back in the day, it came with a Touch Bar, a touch-sensitive strip above the keyboard that allowed me to interact with my applications in different ways.  I wasn’t really a fan and didn’t use it much, but maybe there’s a better way to implement this idea.  That’s certainly the hope of a new Kickstarter campaign called the Flexbar.  It’s a USB device for Mac and Windows that allows users to define how they want to interact with their applications and then do so with just a touch.  For anyone who regularly has a process for doing something, such as editing a picture in Photomator or a video in Davinci Resolve, it could be a way to quickly access the features needed most.  As this is still a Kickstarter project, it’s hard to know how well this will turn out, but I’m cautiously optimistic that it could be very helpful.  If you’d like to know more, take a look at their Kickstarter page.

  2. As somebody else who has had a computer with a Touch Bar – there were some interesting and powerful uses for it, but nothing could overcome it’s single flaw: You have to look at it to use it. Which means that you have to look away from your actual screen.

So it can be really useful and have lots of powerful commands on it – that you’ll never realize are there and will never use because you’ll never look at it.
