REVIEW – Once upon a time I let a lady named Joanne fire lasers at my face.  My sun damage disappeared and my skin was absolutely radiant.  Unfortunately, though, that medical treatment was several hundred dollars a session, so I haven’t been back in a while.  Recently, I heard that there was a home laser called the NIRA that could achieve similar results over time, and I had to try it.  It’s been about three months, and it’s time to evaluate the results of daily lasering with this NIRA Pro Laser.

The NIRA Pro is an FDA cleared, clinically proven anti-aging laser device.

Design and features

The NIRA Pro uses the same laser chips found in many clinical lasers.  The laser targets the peak absorption in the skin, but at a lower setting so unlike the lasers at a Medspa, for example, your skin doesn’t turn red.  There is no burny feeling afterwards, either.  Sometimes when I had a session with Joanne, I felt like my face was really sunburned.  You never feel that way after the NIRA Pro.  However, usually I went in once a month for treatments at my dermatologist’s office, and with the NIRA Pro, you really have to commit to daily use.  It’s quick and painless, but it is an extra step in your routine.

Performance

The idea behind the NIRA Pro is that it uses heat to “trick” your skin into thinking it has to repair itself and thus produce collagen, the stuff that makes your skin bouncy and stretchy like it was when you weren’t so old and wrinkly.  Some women even experience a little “lift” that you can see in some of the before and after pictures on their website.  It is safe for all skin tones and it really is painless.  I used mine on the highest setting and it just feels warm. There is no light involved, and you wouldn’t really know anything was happening except that if just feels kind of warm.

I did experience almost uncomfortable levels of heat when my skin wasn’t washed before I lasered, so I caution that if you get a NIRA Pro, always use it on freshly washed skin.  All you really do is turn it on and make sure it’s on the setting you like (mine occasionally reset  back to level 1 after a charge which was mildly annoying).  Then you put the laser on your skin and you will hear a beep.  When it beeps again, you lift it up and put it in a new spot, slightly overlapping the previous spot.  You continue doing that until you’ve treated the area you want to treat.   If you don’t place the laser flush against your skin, there is a rejection tone that tells you to try again.

Initially I started off with my eye area and my decolletage.  Eventually I abandoned the decolletage because I’m a bit lazy and I wasn’t sure I was always lasering the same spot from day to day.  I might revisit the chest at a later time, but I kept on my eye area since that’s where I see the most signs of age.  NIRA also included in my package a bottle of their NIRA Youth Renewal Peptide Cream which I used probably 75% of the time.  I didn’t always have it with me on trips so I skipped the cream on those occasions.

The idea behind the NIRA Pro is that over time this home device delivers more power than professional treatments in a single visit, and some of the before and after photos are startling.  Now for my own startling photos.

After

In my before pictures, you can see some crepe-iness to my undereye area.  The after pictures definitely appear tighter and almost more hydrated, although the afters were taken after an evening of “celebration” at a Dodger game watch party (Go Blue!) so if anything I was dehydrated!  I had not used anything to moisturize and these sets of pictures were all taken immediately after washing my face.

I’m pretty happy with the results.   The instructions state that after 90 days you don’t have to do nightly lasering to continue to see results.  You can drop back to a few times a week, which could give you the opportunity to incorporate another body area into your routine and do other areas on your face or body and alternate after you’ve completed your 90 day regime.

What I like about the NIRA Pro Laser

  • Not painful
  • Quick and easy
  • It’s an at-home procedure.

What needs to be improved?

  • Occasionally I found that my device reset to the lowest level and I didn’t like that because if I didn’t check, I might have lasered on a lower level than I wanted to.

Final thoughts

I’ll continue to use the NIRA Pro laser.  I think it does make a difference, although the change is very gradual and until I looked at my before and after pictures I really wasn’t sure that anything happened.   I encourage everyone who gets one of these to do before and afters!
