REVIEW – Recently my stove top has decided to have an existential crisis. All of a sudden the burner of the stove top has decided to only work on High heat without the inner section ever turning on. The middle back burner can’t decide if it wants to work full blast or not at all. This has put us in a bit of a quandary when trying to prepare meals until I can either get it repaired or replaced. Luckily for me and my family, the Midea 8-In-1 11QT Two-Zone Air Fryer Oven became available to review and I was able to snatch it up. I was hoping it could buy me some time on the stove top replacement while still being able to cook for a family of six. Let’s see how that worked out.

What is it?

The Midea 8-In-1 11QT Two-Zone Air Fryer Oven has an upper 6-quart frying basket and a lower traditional toaster oven allowing the user to air fry, grill, dehydrate, bake, roast, broil, reheat, and toast.

Design and features

The Midea 8-In-1 11QT Two-Zone Air Fryer Oven has 2 separate, independent cooking areas. The first is the spacious upper 6-quart air fryer and the second is a lower traditional toaster oven. Both of which can reach up to 400 F.

This allows the option to air fry, grill, dehydrate, bake, roast, broil, reheat, or toast 2 different dishes at once. It even has what Midea calls Sync Finish technology so you can sync both the air fryer and oven to each other so that both zones finish cooking at the same time, no matter the settings, time, or temperature.

It has both touch controls and a knob to set your requirements and they both work well.

And no, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you, that is a Wi-Fi symbol between the temperature settings. That’s right! You can connect it to your home network and control it with an app. It’s the same app I discussed in my review of the Midea U-shaped air conditioner. So now I can control both devices from one app and really prank the rest of my family.

Assembly, Installation, Setup

There’s no assembly for the Midea 8-In-1 11QT Two-Zone Air Fryer Oven. Just unpack it, wash the trays, and plug er’ in. Connecting wirelessly to the Midea 8-In-1 11QT Two-Zone Air Fryer Oven is simple as well. All I had to do was open the app, MSmartHome, which is available for Android and IOS, power on the air fryer, and then add the new device. As soon as I did that, I was notified there was a firmware update available, so I followed the prompts to complete that.

The MSmartHome app is laid out nicely and is simple to follow. You can select the zone, method, temperature, and time to cook all from the app. You can also set the sync function from here. They’ve also included some recipes in case you need a little inspiration or just wondering how something would be cooked.

Performance

Of all the gadgets I’ve reviewed since becoming a Gadgeteer, this one has seen the most use by my family. We had a smaller air fryer gifted to us years ago that the kids used. They loved it and were disappointed when it died. Yes, I’ve recently had a rash of appliances kicking the bucket. With the Midea 8-In-1 11QT Two-Zone Air Fryer Oven even I’ve become a heavy user. It’s nice to have the larger air fryer space and the lower toaster oven is great since we can cook two dishes at once. Sure, the first thing that was cooked in the Midea 8-In-1 11QT Two-Zone Air Fryer Oven was frozen snacks, but since the stovetop no longer wanted to play nicely, the first real dish I made in it was chicken wings. I was happily surprised to see that they came out crispy and juicy. We’ve also gone to using it over the oven if at all possible to reduce the amount of heat output in the kitchen. My daughter found a recipe for chicken thighs with soy sauce and honey. They turned out perfectly.

We also loved oven-roasted potatoes and onions, so of course we made those too.

I will admit we haven’t used the sync option to the fullest yet. Usually, we use it when there isn’t enough room in the top basket to cook everything at once. We’ll put the remainder in the bottom and sync it to the top. Clean-up is nice since it has a non-stick finish. A quick wipe with a washcloth and dish soap and rinse gets the job done. The only nit I can pick is the touch control panel picks up fingerprints very easily. Other than that, the Midea has been a lifesaver for my family.

What I like about Midea 8-In-1 11QT Two-Zone Air Fryer Oven

  • Quality of Midea products
  • 2 separate zones for cooking
  • Large cooking areas
  • Well laid out app

What needs to be improved?

  • Nothing

Final thoughts

Before the air conditioner I reviewed, I’d never heard of Midea. Now, I have 2 of their products and am happy with both. If the Midea 8-In-1 11QT Two-Zone Air Fryer Oven lasts as long as our gifted one did, then I’ll be ecstatic. We’re still learning how to use it to the fullest but we’ve gotten great results so far with everything we’ve cooked in it. If all of that weren’t enough, the price is very reasonable as well
