REVIEW – For the majority of my tree-trimming needs (I have a lot of trees), I rely on my trusty EGO EGO POWER + 18 in. chainsaw. This thing is a beast. However, It’s also overkill for smaller branches too large for a manual lopper. For those in-between jobs, there’s the IMOUMLIVE Brushless 6-Inch Mini Chainsaw Pro—a one-handed cutter for smaller jobs.
What is it?
The IMOUMLIVE Brushless 6-Inch Mini Chainsaw Pro is a hand-held battery mini chainsaw for cutting branches. Its 6-in. blade is long enough to even cut small logs for firewood.
The chainsaw is housed in a bright yellow-colored shell with black, rubberized trim for easy gripping. At first glance, it resembles a DeWalt tool. It comes with two 21-volt batteries which last a good while on those weekend backyard jobs you’ve been putting off.
The hand grip features a trigger that only works when pressed. The sliding safety button can be pushed to either side for left or right-handed people. The lock position is in the center position of this sliding switch.
The battery slides and locks into place at the base of the chainsaw. With the battery in place, it can stand upright.
The chainsaw blade wraps around a 6-in. bar that can be removed when replacing the saw blade. An extra one is included in the package. A plastic safety guard covers the upper part of the saw protecting the user from flying sawdust and wood bits while in operation. It moves out of the way as the chainsaw saws through wood.
An oil container sits flush to the electric motor. The oil helps keep the blade lubricated (and cooler) during use. When pressed, an air bulb (what IMOUMLIVE calls an oil box) helps distribute the oil over the saw blade.

Design and features
First, I’m not sure why the IMOUMLIVE Brushless 6-Inch Mini Chainsaw Pro is called “Pro”. It’s clearly a homeowner’s DIY tool and not something a pro tree guy would use. We’ve hired many pro tree trimmers who use massive and expensive equipment—definitely “pro”. Having said that, the IMOUMLIVE mini chainsaw is up to the task for yard work.
I used to use a Black&Decker Alligator lopper—a mini chainsaw requiring two hands—to trim branches. It was heavy, unbalanced and awkward to use. The battery was abysmally small. Plus, I lost the charger and didn’t care enough to replace it. To my surprise, the IMOUMLIVE mini chainsaw was easy use single-handed freeing one hand to hold the branch in place while cutting.
The weight of the 21V battery provides a nice balance when the chainsaw is held and used. There’s no induced strain on muscles trying to keep the chainsaw balanced, as with the Black&Decker. When finished cutting, my arms didn’t shake as sometimes would happen.
Keeping in mind that the blade is new, cutting was quick and easy. I would have preferred a faster cut, but this is a mini chainsaw, so the motor is much smaller than my EGO. The 18 in. EGO spoiled me. For smaller jobs, the IMOUMLIVE is perfectly fine.
Noise level is quieter than I expected, but it is noisy. When using powered equipment, I use noise-canceling earphones to protect my hearing and keep me entertained with music.
IMOUMLIVE provides a nice, plastic case that holds the chainsaw, batteries, oil, everything. It’s a great way to keep dust and dirt off the chainsaw when storing. Speaking of dirt—as with any chainsaw, sawdust collects around the motor at the base of the chain. This needs to be periodically cleaned out by removing the motor cover.
This same cover needs to be removed when changing the blade. If you are familiar with other chainsaws, changing the blade will be easy. If not, the manual does a good job of explaining the process. The manual does not explain what the round file is for. I imagine it’s for sharpening the chainsaw blade, but no explanation is given on how to do this. Besides, I never sharpen the chainsaw blade—only replace it.
Since the motor is battery and not gas-powered, the chainsaw is completely off when not being used. It won’t “walk across the yard” when idle as gas models can. I’m convinced that battery power is the future in powered yard tools.
What I like about the IMOUMLIVE Brushless 6-inch Mini Chainsaw
- Comfortable to hold
- Well balanced
- Handy size—not too big or small
What needs to be improved?
- Manual could be a bit more helpful
Final thoughts
The IMOUMLIVE Brushless 6-Inch Mini Chainsaw Pro is one neat little tool for those jobs that require quick cutting without dragging out the monster chainsaw. You can just grab and go. Plus the one-handed use allows the other hand to hold onto a tree trunk for balance or a branch to keep it from falling. And at under $110, it won’t break your wallet.
