REVIEW – If you live anywhere in the northeast, you probably experienced the eye-watering, cough-inducing, headache-causing wildfire smoke this summer. Some days were brutal, and even worse for people with health issues, like my brother-in-law. Hoping to help, I jumped at the opportunity to have a look at Morento’s HY4866 air purifier.

Design and features
The Morento HY4866 air purifier arrives in a large-ish box.
Foam and plastic bag packaging keeps it safe.
The documentation is easy to read.
The Morento HY4866 air purifier is not heavy at just a squidge over seven pounds so it can easily be moved from room to room.
There is a recessed handle in the back just above the PM2.5 sensor
The power supply is a “wall wart” rated at 100-240 VAC input at 1.2 amps. Output is 24 volts DC at 200mA with a barrel-type coaxial connector. The socket is located near the HY4866’s base.
Doors on the front and back of the Morento HY4866 air purifier are hinged at the bottom and open to access both HEPA air filters. This is a great design and makes replacement easy with new ones available at $30 a pair. Because both the front and rear are air intakes, it’s a good idea to make sure there is plenty of clearance for the best performance.
Filtered air exits from the top.
The buttons are touch-sensitive controls. From left to right, Filter Reset, Timer, Child Lock, Power, Fan Speed, Sleep Mode, and Auto Mode.
The Morento HY4866 air purifier’s filter should last about 2000 hours. Hold the button for five seconds to reset the HY4866 to reset the usage timer. Tapping the button displays the filter life from 99% (F99) and counting down to zero (F00). HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters are capable of removing up to 99.97% of airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns or more.
The timer button automatically powers the HY4866 off after a selectable two, five, or eight-hour delay
Child reset locks the functions to prevent toddler tampering. Holding for three seconds enables and disables button operations and an accompanying LED lets you know the status.
Of course, the power button activates the beastie.
The fan is four-speed and can be adjusted. The display will illuminate 1F, 2F, 3F, or 4F for each progressively faster output. Each level is louder, but even the fastest speed is quiet enough to engage in conversation with the HT4866 nearby.
Sleep mode selects the quietest fan speed and dims the display to help prevent disturbances to your slumber. Touching any button deactivates this mode.
Automatic mode is where the Morento HY4866 air purifier excels, adjusting the fan speed based on the input from the air quality detector.
The air quality detector is mounted on the top of the HY4866 and measures incoming air, numerically displaying the PM2.5 index value (PM for Particulate Matter and 2.5 indicating 2.5 microns, 100 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair). Because these particles of smoke, dust, liquids, and other scary stuff are so tiny, they can remain suspended in the air for long periods and be inhaled deeply into your lungs. These particles are detected by the HY4866’s circuitry and numerically displayed. The higher the number, the more crap is floating around your room.
The display is for reference only so please don’t use it for medical or scientific measurements.
Under the PM2.5 display, Morento was thoughtful enough to add a graphical filter life meter.
The Morento HY4866 air purifier works very well and had no trouble clearing my garage of smoke after running my laser engraver for a while. I was very pleased at the amount of air it was able to move and seeing the PM2.5 meter value decrease was a valuable indicator that it’s doing a commendable job.
What I like
- Dual HEPA filters
- Moves large quantities of air
- Quiet operation
- Easy to replace filters
- Informative PM2.5 display
What I’d change
- Nothing
Final thoughts
If you’re sensitive to air quality or just want to inhale fewer particles of nastiness, the Morento HY4866 air purifier is a great choice. I appreciate the quick filter replacement, quiet operation, automatic mode, and, as an information junkie, PM2.5 display. I’ll be giving it to my brother-in-law and his family and have no doubt it will help with his breathing issues. Thank you and well done, Morento!
