REVIEW – I have a thin air pad that I use when weight is a concern but for those longer camping trips where I can park right next to my campsite I wanted something a little more comfortable since my back isn’t getting any younger. Let’s see if the Elegear 4 inch Inflatable Double Sleep pad is up to the task.

Design and Features
With summer in full swing and my son wanting to go camping, I was looking for a sleeping pad that was a little more comfortable than the small thin backpacking sleep pad I’ve been using. Although it gets the job done my back can’t handle it for more than a couple of nights. The Elegear 4 inch thick double sleep pad seemed to fit the bill and even came with a built-in foot pump which was great because now I can avoid bringing a battery-powered pump which always seems to run out of batteries when you need it most and was one less thing to worry about.
It took me exactly 1 min and 42 seconds to pump it up using the foot pump. If you want to use this as an air mattress for guests at the house you can cheat and use an external electric pump utilizing one of the deflate valves to blow it up quicker. I slept on it with my 7-year-old son and although a little tight we both fit. I liked the additional height of the pillow area but also used an additional pillow with it. The low 2.1 R-value was great for summer camping and I didn’t get hot at all. Deflating was super easy and with the two valves opened most of the air escaped in about 10 minutes and then rolling it up got the last of the air out.
It did have a very slow leak the first night we tried it. I took it down to the lake to see if I could spot the air leak and found one of the valves was not fully seated. The valves are a little tight and stiff when new so if you have an issue with air leaking just open and close the valves a few times to loosen them up a little and make sure they are fully seated to prevent air loss. Side note, the pad made a great float for the lake while we were there swimming.
What I like
- Built in foot pump eliminates the need for an external pump
- Surprisingly comfy
What I’d change
- Additional sizes such as a single or full
Final Thoughts
I really like the Elegear 4 inch Inflatable Double Sleep pad. I now wish they made a single or full size as well so I could use it as my primary for just myself. It inflates and deflates with ease. The built-in foot pump works great and avoids having to bring batteries and a pump or having to use your own breath. At 4 inches thick I never felt the ground even when I was on my side. The extra depth was comfortable and my back did not protest in pain every morning so that was a major positive. Overall the Elegear 4-inch Double Inflating Sleep Pad was everything it claimed to be. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a more comfortable sleep pad that can also pull double duty as a blow-up mattress for guests.
