Govee Outdoor Lights 7

REVIEW – SInce I purchased my new home, I have worked hard to transform the horrible landscaping that it came with into something that is attractive and head-turning. A big part of my design has been lighting much of which needs to be redone now that we are coming out of a typical NY winter. The Govee RGBIC Wi-Fi + Bluetooth Outdoor Ground Lights excite me. Let’s see if they live up to my expectations.

What is it?

The Govee RGBIC Wi-Fi + Bluetooth Outdoor Ground Lights are colorful ground lights that with an IP67 waterproof grade can remain out in the elements all year. They feature music sync, hands-free voice control with Alexa and Google Voice Assistant, and remote control through the Govee Home App via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Design and Performance

The lights are small and made of plastic and tethered together like a normal string of lights. Installation is very easy. Just snap on the ground stakes and push the lights into the soil in the formation that you want.

There is a controller in between the AC adapter and the lights. The power button is built into one of the flat surfaces of the controller.

My next step was to insert the lights into the ground around my front stairs and one of the plant beds.

The lights are set up via the app. It uses Bluetooth and wifi that allows control from anywhere in the world. Here are some screenshots:

The app setup is easy and quick and once done you are ready to go. The first thing that I did was set the lights to a steady color that would be my summer color.

Next, I went on to try out some of the options, adjustments, and light scenes.
Here are some of the light scenes:

Overall, this is a really nice string of lights with loads of adjustability and it even includes a DIY capability so that you can create your own custom scenes. It can be controlled with Alexa which I have and which works well with this and my other Govee lights. The wifi feature allows me to turn the lights on at night when I am away from home, and my neighbors are constantly admiring them. I do have a big concern about the AC adapter being rated IPX0 since these are outdoor lights and over time it may be very hard for me to keep that adapter dry. I also think that the control box should be built with a higher IPX rating. I am lucky that I was able to hide the AC adapter under a window well, and I am hoping that is enough protection.

What I like

  • Nice design
  • Easy to setup
  • Great lighting options
  • Good quality construction

What I’d change

  • The AC adapter should be waterproof

Final thoughts

I have a few different lights from Govee and they have always been very nice. These lights are no exception. They look great and offer great flexibility for color schemes. I give Govee another well done.

  2. How do you mow grass or use a weed eater around these? Any concern about hitting the lights or cords? New to exterior lighting but wanting to get some for my house.
