REVIEW – Since the emergence of the Covid-19 virus in early 2020, I have been working from home and spending many hours each day on conference calls. During this time, I have continued to try various devices and combinations of devices to meet my two-way audio/video needs since most of the calls are now via Microsoft Teams. Also, since I have the ability to be mobile, I have been looking for a mobile solution as well. Enter the Creative HS-720 V2 USB headset.
What is it?
The Creative HS-720 V2 is a USB headset that features noise-canceling, a condenser mic, and an inline remote with a mic mute Button for audio and video Calls.

Specifications
This headset has 2 well-padded earcups with the branding on the outside of each earcup. The headband is padded and adjustable. The mic boom arm is flexible and adjustable. The cord has an inline control.
Performance
This headset is plug-and-play and very easy to setup. All I needed to do was plug it into a vacant USB port. Since I have other audio devices connected to my computer, I went into the Windows OS settings and made sure that this headset was the new default input and output device for audio.
The inline controls work well and I find the mute button convenient and well placed for use during conference calls. I also use the volume and call answer and hang-up buttons a lot and the play/pause/next track controls while listening to music or watching videos.
The following illustration shows the controls and how the LEDs respond:
This headset fits well and is comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
Overall, this headset works well for every function that is designed for. The sound is great for calls and also for daily listening to music and videos via your computer. It is an all-around great personal and business tool and the fact that it is USB powered makes it great for mobile use. I would like to be completely wire-free if the design can be upgraded to utilize a dedicated USB dongle if only to guarantee that it would provide the same quality of audio while being truly mobile.
What I like
- The comfort when wearing for long periods of time
- The all-around good sound
- The build quality
- The practicality
- The plug-n-play capability
What I’d change
- This exact headset but wireless with a dedicated wireless USB dongle and the same performance
Final thoughts
I am very pleased with this headset from Creative and so much so that I use it every day for my Microsoft teams conference calls. I also use it in between calls to listen to music while I work. I actually focus well that way. This is a very well-made and very practical headset and at a very competitive price. Well done!!

The mute/unmute button doesn’t work with Zoom.
Do you know how to set it so you can hear your own voice in the headset when talking? The noise cancelling is so good, it’s disconcerting not being able to hear my own voice and I find it hard to get used to, also raising my voice because I can’t hear myself
