REVIEW – I’ve been needing a desk lamp for my work area for a while now but never saw anything that I really liked until I saw the Brightech LightView Flex LED Magnifier Lamp with Clamp and Base for Desk (5 diopter). After getting the chance to check it out first hand, I discovered that it was the lamp I never knew I needed. It magnifies enough for me to thread a needle, read the fine print on product info, extract splinters, and perform a cursory ID of small insects found around the house.
What is it?
The Brightech LightView Flex LED Magnifier Lamp with Clamp and Base for Desk is a desk lamp that has a ring of LED lights around a five-diopter glass magnifying lens which will magnify objects 2.25 times or 225% bigger than their original size (they also sell a three-diopter glass magnifying lens lamp which will magnify objects 1.75 times or 175% bigger than their original size). You can attach the light to either the weighted base or the clamp. The lamp comes in white or black colors.

Design and features
The Brightech LightView Flex LED Magnifier Lamp comes with a base and a clamp, and the stock photo above illustrates some of its specifications. The lamp feels well-made. The base is weighted…
…and the lamp that was sent to me actually has a silicone cover over the gooseneck portion unlike that shown in the stock photo. My lamp also has a magnifying lens diameter of 3 3/4 inches – not 3 inches like that shown in the stock photo. The above photo shows the ring of LEDs on the underside of the lamp. The LEDs are covered with a translucent plastic cover. The top of the lamp is black plastic. You can also see the Power On/Off button at the base of the magnifying glass. At the opposite end of the light is the place where the lamp attaches to the weighted base or clamp. This area also contains the power port for the lamp. The lamp’s desktop base has a hard matte black plastic exterior. The base also has a good heft to it to keep the lamp upright and make it sturdy. The underside of the base has five soft silicone pads to keep the lamp from sliding around on your furniture and scratching it. It’s really easy to attach the light to its base or clamp. You simply line up the black verticle marks on the end of the light and the base, as shown above, slide the end of the light into the base, … …and rotate the lamp around to secure it. You use the same procedure to attach the light to the clamp. The clamp contains hard thick silicone pads between the clamps so as not to mar your furniture. They also keep the lamp from sliding around. It’s a sizable clamp and is very stiff. This will keep the lamp in place where ever I place it.
Performance
Here is where the Brightech LightView Flex LED Magnifier Lamp resides in my home. It’s between my sewing machine and my microscopes and photo light box. It’s handy having it next to the sewing machine where I have to thread the needle. As you can see, I used the base for the light and not the clamp. It suited my needs better.
I also tried using the clamp and it works really well. In fact, the clamp is really stiff and if you have to move it around frequently, your hand may get sore. I used the magnifying lamp to look at some of the wonderful insects that we have around here in Texas. It’s is perfect for doing a cursory ID of those. And the magnifying lamp also worked wonders for me as I threaded a needle to sew a button on a blouse. This lamp made easy work of my tiny tasks. What in the world did I do before I had this?
The lamp is also useful for reading the fine print on documents, extracting splinters, or doing some repair work on your mobile devices. The bright LED lights provide ample cool white light and the magnifying glass enlarges small objects well so that you can complete your minute tasks.
What I like
- The Brightech LightView Flex LED Magnifier Lamp is bright (cool white light).
- The 5-diopter lens magnifies small objects 2.25 times or 225% bigger than their original size (it helps me to thread a needle, read the fine print on product info, extract splinters, and perform a cursory ID of insects).
- You can attach the light to the weighted base or the clamp, both of which work well.
- The flexible gooseneck allows me to adjust the light to the perfect position to see the object that I need to see.
What I’d change
- Nothing
Final thoughts
I truly enjoyed using the Brightech LightView Flex LED Magnifier Lamp (5-diopter). The LEDs shed a cool bright light and the lens magnified small objects nicely (5-diopter lens magnifies 2.25 times or 225% bigger than their original size). Having a gooseneck arm is really handy when I need to adjust the lamp to see something better whether it’s under the sewing machine, under my microscope, or in my hands. The weighted base keeps the lamp upright after adjusting the lamp and if you want to attach the light to a clamp to free up some workspace on your desk, you can. The clamp is quite strong and the hard silicone pads between the clamps keep it from sliding around. I highly recommend the Brightech LightView Flex LED Magnifier Lamp.
Update 9/25/
My Brightech lamp still works well after five years. I use it frequently to complete small tasks like pulling out a splinter or threading the needle on my sewing machine. I liked mine so much, I bought my mother two and she loves them.
