One of the trends coming out of the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show is turning portable Bluetooth speakers into bigger portable Bluetooth speakers. It’s not a new trend, but it is increasing. Ultimate Ears has joined the fray with its new UE Megaboom speaker. Like the original Boom, the Megaboom blasts audio in 360°. The big difference is that the Megaboom is big-ger, growing from 7 in. to 8.5 in. high. It looks just like the original Boom—only bigger—with the same easy-grip outer skin design. The Magaboom is now certified waterproof, beyond the Boom’s water resistant rating, making it much more useful outdoors. Larger speakers send mush more volume out farther as does its longer-range Bluetooth—100 ft. vs Bluetooth’s usual 30 ft. There is a new double up feature that allows—with two Megaboom speakers—either true wireless stereo or double the sound, controled by a smartphone app. The Magaboom also includes NFC and comes in three bright colors plus black and is available now for $299.99 US. What I’m looking for is a inexpensive (around $125) bluetooth device that has speakers that can be separated to give better stereo sound.
Is there such a thing?
Sandee,
You can pair many Bluetooth speakers to achieve true left/right stereo, but that requires buying two speakers effectively doubling your cost. You may want to check out the new A-Audio Prodigy Magnetic Bluetooth Speakers. They were just introduced at CES, so they are not yet available. There is not much info on them yet. They will sell for $200, but they separate for two speaker—L/R stereo. I haven’t heard of anything in your price range. If I do, I’ll let you know.
