There have been several successfully-funded pen projects over the past several months on Kickstarter, the popular crowd-scourcing site. But the lack of pencil projects led mechanical deisgn engineer Brian Conti to take a slightly different tack with the Spoke Mechanical Pencil project, one of the first of its kind on Kickstarter. Machined in the U.S.A. from 6061 aluminum, the Spoke’s body has unique styling which features a hexagonal cross-section contoured near the tip for better grip while writing. Six slots cut through the body provide the “spokes,” evoking a bicycle wheel or the rims of a car. There are several funding options which include various colors and finishes, including natural aluminum and anodized gunmetal, red, blue, black and green. You can become a backer for a minimum $27 pledge, but do it quickly—only five days left as of this writing to get aboard.

I don’t understand what are these pencil things for? Don’t we all just use our fingers nowadays?
@Ken – Good point! Get it—point? Eh, nevermind. 😉
How freaking cool is that!
I use a pencil all day everyday, this will definitely get some attention. Not just your run of the mill plastic mechanical pencil. I hope this gets funded.
To anyone interested in the Spoke, I’d like to put in a plug for it. I’m a backer on this project and we are very close to the funding goal, we just need a few more people to take the plunge before this Saturday, August 11!
