Some bags are big enough to carry all your gear and the kitchen sink. That’s great if you need and want that, but they are overkill for when you only need your laptop, phone, and a couple of other items. Tom Bihn has designed the Cadet for those of us who like to carry a minimum of things. The Cadet is designed with Apple computers and the iPad in mind, but other gear will work with it. (Check their fit list to see if yours will fit.) It comes in two sizes: 15/13 Cadet for 15″ and 13″ MacBook Pro, 13″ MacBook, or the 13″ Air; and the 11/iPad for 11″ MacBook Air and the iPad. In addition to the main compartment, there is a large organizer pocket and zippered slip-in pocket on the front. The case is made using the normal, sturdy fabrics and the same quality construction methods always used by Tom Bihn. It’s available in several color combinations. The Cadet is $170 and comes with a Cadet Cache laptop insert sized to fit your computer or iPad.

I love Tom Bihn bags, but I need one that can carry both my 15″ Macbook Pro and an iPad. Any idea if this will fit them both?
@Saxon I wish I could help you, but this is only a news item. I haven’t actually gotten my hands on a Cadet bag.
Saxon: yes, the Cadet will fit both a 15″ MacBook Pro and an iPad. The iPad will fit by itself or inside of our Cache iPad sleeve in the open top pocket in the main compartment of the Cadet.
Saxon, do you really need to carry all your gear with you, all the time? Just asking, because there is a large overlap of functionality between the Macbook and the iPad. I think you’d best be served by leaving one of them at home.
I can understand carrying both. You can use a screwdriver as a hammer, but it’s better to carry both in your tool bag.
