Last fall, I reviewed The Ice Red UNI Cargo Laptop Tote Bag. Now, not quite one year later, Ice Red has another laptop tote bag for women that they’ve sent to me to review.
The Sirocco urban laptop tote features a crinkle-nylon exterior available in Blue, Red, Grey or Black. It has a 17 x 13 x 4 inch overall size.
The front of the bag has two compartments that are secured by chunky silver zippers.
The top compartment is lined in Orange 420D nylon (as are all the other pockets and compartments). It’s a 12 x 12 inch sized pocket that has padding on the back wall.
In front of that compartment is another zippered storage area that houses a panel of organization slots and pockets. At the very back, there is a large horizontal zippered pocket that holds two equally sized open topped slots and a key fob attached to a long strap (not pictured). Below that pocket a familiar collection of pen / pencil slots (there are 3), an open pocket behind them, a clear plastic ID slot, with a zippered slot behind it, and another open topped slot.
On the back side of the Sirocco is a deep open topped (held closed by a small square of Velcro) slot that is large enough to accommodate large format magazines, papers, folders, etc.
This bag can be carried by the adjustable shoulder strap or hand straps.
The Sirocco can be expanded by unzipping the U shaped zipper that is sewn into the sides and bottom of the bag. This allows the bag to stand up on a flat surface when it is full of gear.
The main compartment of the bag is secured by the same type of chunky zipper (metal pull, plastic zipper). Inside is the 16 x 11 x 2 inch padded laptop sleeve. My 15 inch Macbook Pro was able to fit in this sleeve with plenty of room to spare. The rest of the main compartment is open. There are no other pockets or sections to keep your gear segregated.
The Sirocco has quite a bit of gear holding capacity, I do like that fact. But what I don’t particularly like is the crinkly fabric. To me, it looks like a shirt that you washed and forgot to dry in the dryer. It’s wrinkly and doesn’t have a really good shape to it. What I find interesting is the fact that the UNI Cargo bag that I reviewed last year, looks much nicer and is less expensive than this slightly sloppy looking Sirocco. The only thing that the Sirocco has going for it over the UNI Cargo is an adjustable shoulder strap. If you don’t need a shoulder strap, get the Cargo. It looks nicer and is the better buy.
