CNY 18,999 is trifold money. Converted at current rates it lands at about $2,660, the bracket where Huawei sells a phone that folds twice. Samsung’s W27 folds once. Under the gold trim it is the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, a $1,899 phone in the US, and Samsung priced it CNY 2,000 above last year’s W26 anyway.
The finish is the visible part of the upcharge. The W27 comes in red or blue with gold accents, carries 16 GB of RAM as standard, and skips the small storage tier entirely: 512 GB at CNY 18,999, or 1 TB at CNY 21,999, about $3,080. There is no cheaper way into this phone.
The functional upgrade sits above the cell towers. The W27 connects to China’s Tiantong satellite network, and the launch offer includes a year of service with 300 minutes of satellite voice calls and 100 satellite texts. The box adds a Kevlar case and a 45 W charger, and eligible buyers can claim Elite-tier Samsung Care+.

The hardware underneath
The inner screen runs 8.0 inches at QXGA+ resolution (2504 x 2256) on a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, and the cover screen runs 6.5 inches at FHD+ (2520 x 1080). Both refresh at 1 to 120 Hz, hit up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, and land at 422 ppi. A Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy runs it.

Cameras lead with a 200 MP main sensor (f/1.7, OIS), a 50 MP ultrawide, and a 10 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and 30x Space Zoom. Two 10 MP selfie cameras cover both screens. The battery grew to 5,000 mAh from the W26’s 4,400, with 45 W wired charging and 20 W wireless, and Samsung rates up to 27 hours of video playback in its own testing.
The body stays slim under the jewelry: 215 g, 4.1 mm unfolded and 8.9 mm folded, camera bump excluded. Android 17 with One UI 9, Galaxy AI, and Samsung Knox run the software. It is on sale now through Samsung’s China store and China Telecom, with open sale following on November 5.
The Fold8 models you can buy in the US
The W27 is China-only, so US buyers cannot order it directly. The same hardware story is on sale in the US as the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Fold8 Ultra. For the base model, read our Galaxy Z Fold8 review.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8

The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the shape pick. Its wide, passport-style fold opens into a broad inner display that reads like a small tablet, while the folded phone stays usable with one hand.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the direct Fold7 successor and the camera pick. It pairs a 200MP main camera with an 8-inch inner display, and it is the phone the W27 is based on. The Fold8 Ultra runs $1,899.99 at Amazon for the 256GB model.

A status line since 2008
The W series, Xin X Tian Xia, has sold luxury Samsung phones through China Telecom since 2008, built for buyers who treat a phone as a status object. Last year’s W26 was a Galaxy Z Fold7 underneath and brought the same Tiantong satellite calling. This year the line gets one phone only: no Fold8 or Flip8 variants, just the W27, wearing a 2027 model year on a 2026 launch.

None of it crosses the Pacific. The W27 is China-only, so a US buyer would need a grey-market importer, and the satellite service stops at the border because it rides a Chinese network. The American version of this hardware already sits on US shelves: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra at $1,899, gold trim not included.
That is the whole pitch, and in its market it works. A W27 buyer on China Telecom is not comparison-shopping foldables; the phone is a business card that opens into a tablet, and Samsung has charged full price for that signal since 2008. US readers lose nothing. Same phone, $761 less, and the gold was never the point.
